How to achieve realistic skin?

Hello Peeps!

I'm having difficulty trying to find the right texture for a barbarian character I am creating. Has anyone seen Conan the Barbarian? I'm aiming to have skin texture as close as possible to how his skin is in the movie. It appears to be a dark tan probably with some oil applied.

I've tried some suggestions previously here such as Caleb ( too white or pale ) and Brock for F4. Just didn't turn out the way I would like. I am also using the M4 Displacement Maps which I finally managed to get right. The veins are perfect! I should probably get into some tutorials about the material room. But I have some basic understanding of it. I know that with Daz3D products you must add math to it then add the maps. Poser products are more easier to use. I have also tried to use someone's product called Diffused Tan. That really didn't work out too good.

Are there any tutorials out there that can teach me what I would like to accomplish? I do have EZSkin Python Script. But it looks complicated? I always appreciate coming here to learn and delighted to hear suggestions. Thank you!

A good rendering engine such as Luxus accompanied by reality will take you quite far.
And there are others, if you have the cash.
    What software are you using?
    Poser, DAZ,Carrara etc.?
Slosh has a great skin thread going on the forum.

    Hi Estroyer,

I'm using Poser Pro 2014. Are they expensive?

Got the link to the thread you refer to? Thanks!

Reality for Poser is sold at RDNA, there is no Luxus for Poser.

I have near to 0 experience with Poser I am afraid.
Reality is relatively cheap compared to other engines such as Octane.

You are getting a wee bit mixed up
Luxrender is the rendering engine, which is free. Luxus is the plugin which allows you to use luxrender with DS, http://www.daz3d.com/luxus as is the other plugin you mention

So.....................yes, now I am confused! lol

I have Poser Pro 2014. According to Preta3D Reality 3 is a Plugin for Poser.
Is Lux compatible for Poser? Or should I just stick with Reality 3 and can Reality 3 help me with my goals? Granted, I know the basics. Some of these scripts and plugins seem a bit complicated. I'm a little hesitant.

Are there any scripts already out there that might be able to help me achieve my goals other than purchasing Reality 3? Is there a tutorial how to use it? :)

    Thanks guys!

Luxus is only for DS and they sell a Carrara one

Luxrender as Chohole says is the render engine, Luxus and Reality are plugins that help you to transfer your scenes with textures etc to Lux and render there.
Personally I would suggest at first to try and figure out the material room, or whatever its called in Poser, so you have some understanding of how materials are handled. I don't use Poser so can't help but do know a lot of people swear by Ezskin.
