Need to rotate an object about the center of the object. When the object was created the Local Origin was at 0,0 which is the bottom or foot of the object. Is it possible to move the Local Origin?
Richard Haseltine (he'll probably turn up in this thread before too long) has a link in his signature to a selection of utility scripts, MoveOrigin does exactly what you need. Made for a much earlier version of D|S, but it still works well in D|S4.6 and I use it all the time. Sorry I can't remember the link itself.
You can also use the Joint Editor tool to do this. It should be set to alter the Centre/Endpoint when you select it - the green widget is the centre, the red the endpoint, just click and drag on one of the green arrows on the centre widget to place it where you want, or use the sliders and numeric fields in the Tool Settings pane.
Can it also be rotated? I have a prop I was working on many ages ago. I imported it to DS and it is at 45 degree angles. I would like to change that to 90 degrees so it is easier to move in the scene. The prop is rectangular and it makes sense to be at straight angles.

Yes, either move the red widget (the endpoint), then right-click and select Align>Align node or simply adjust the Orientation values in Tool Settings.
Thanks Richard. That is a great help.
Thanks Richard. I would have never though or using the Joint Editor tool. This is much faster than the crude work around I am using.
