Easy Environments Questions?

Hi I grabbed a couple of Flipmode's Easy Environments series and are having some issues.

Example Eternal Sands

The documentation mentions Icons should be in the Daz Studio Catagories as follows:

-Environments Landscape

-Lights Exterior

The only files are all in the Poser Runtime props folder, is this correct or should there be files installed under the default Daz Studio install folder as described by the documentation?

I am asking as the supplied lights do not work with the Skybox, actualy no lights work with the skybox resulting in a black render.

Note this was installed via the Daz Install Manager, screenshot of installed files attached.

Thanks

Are you rendering with Iray? The older Easy Environments (like Eternal Sands) were made for 3Delight renders only, so they will tend to render black in Iray. There is a way to use them, explained by Flipmode (the vendor) here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/825330/#Comment_825330

Just checked Eternal Sands in my catagories - the icons load DS files (*.dsa) even thought they say pp2

Yes, there will be a little scroll icon at top-left of the thumbnails as each as a companion file - a .dsa (script) fiel that DS will read isntead of the pp2, which will load the content for DS instead of Poser (or load the Poser content and apply DS materials).

I checked the Poser runtime folder and there seems to be Daz Studi files incleded with the poser files so I guess that is okay.

I have tried rendering in both Iray & 3Delight and both come out black when I add any light.

Works fine if I dont use the Skybox.

Since other people are using this thing okay It must be me but I've no idea as to what th issue is as I'm loading the scene & adding the light and hitting the render button.

    Am I missing something here?

Using a Skydome in Iray blocks any light that is outside it. Think of it as a building with no windows. To use the backdrop image of the Skydome go to Render Settings/Environment and click on the Environment Map and choose the Skydome image to apply it, delete the Skydome and the image will be in the Iray Dome and be visible in the render. To see it in the Viewport you will have to change the Viewport to Iray Mode.

Okay I'm taking it that you want the SkyBox deleted & not the Skydome?

The backdrop image is actualy around half a dozen seperate images one for each side of the Skybox so I guess I'll look for something that will work for the Dome setup.

Or am I reading this wrong?

Aha, I can get the lights working with the skybox but only with the shadows switched off.

It looks like you can only use the skybox and lighting with 3Delight render.

or is there another way to use the supplied SkyBox with lights using the Iray renderer?

Scrub that sad What I posted was for Skydomes and not for this Skybox.

I have used the Autumn one and what I did was set the Iray dome to Sun and Sky then I went to the surface tab for the Skybox (not the Ground one) and selected all the surfaces and changed the Refraction Index to 1; Refraction Weight to 1, and put the diffuse image into the Cutout Opacity slot, opened the Image Editor and changed Invert to On and Greyscale from Luminance.

Did you read the linked information (Flipmode's own recommendation for using skyboxes in Iray) in my post about 6 posts above this one?

While I have been using the above solutions for the Eternal Sands & Oasis environments I am having issues with the [Mountain Trail] environment.

No matter what I do when I change the emmision, color & texture settings (North, top etc) as above the skybox renders a solid white in Iray.

Everything else in the scene is okay but I cannot get the skbox textures to render properly.

Has anyone else run into this?

Tried the Greenlands & Outback with the same negative result.

Eternal Sands & The Oasis both render okay but Mountain Pass, Outback & Greenlands render the skybox solid white?

Not sure what the difference is, has anyone else run into this?

Okay I deleted the skybox and added the Oasis Skybox that I modified to work with Iray and It worked.

There is something different between the skyboxes in the Oasis & Eternal Desert compared to the others but cant see what.
