Question - How to make a headlight shine into a scene
Studio 4.6: A basic question, I think, but I've been looking for forum entries about this, and haven't found what I'm looking for.
If I have a prop of a light, like a headlight on a vehicle, for example, and I want the scene to be lit by that object, how is that done?
One shader mixer tutorial speaks about light bricks; when I open shader mixer, root>light>spotlight, there is no light brick there to attach to, as this tute says there should be.
The Uber Area light entries haven't seemed to get to where I'm looking to go. Not an area light-like diffuse lighting on near surfaces, but a stabbing sort of search-spotlight effect, like real headlights or flashlights. Just the way daz default spotlights work.
My goal is to have a selected surface shine into the scene with a focused beam.
I can get the effect I want by positioning daz spotlights in front of or near the emitting object, but I think that there is a way to make a given object surface do this without the daz light. Especially as shader mixer has a light category of spotlight.
Suggestion on where to look?

This is a popular topic right now, though most of the discussion has been related to rays through windows or the like. essentially you need a cone or cylinder to catch the light, or a volume shader applied to a cube in front of the lights. Thanks, Richard, a great thread with SY's free download to boot. Worth a shot.
