Lost surface

I seem to have a problem with surfaces. For some reason i cannot select specific items. For example with V4 selected i can alter the whole thing or nothing at all. If i wish to change the colour of V4 nails for instance, as soon as i select them, i lose the editor panel to the right of the selection panel. This is something that i may have done inadvertently perhaps, but i cannot think of anything, or it may be something really silly that i am missing sight of. I have been using surfaces for ages now and while i am no expert i do know the basics of using the tab. Any help please…

Which TOOL is active when you try to select just one surface? Try the Node Selection tool and see if that works.
Okay, first of all the universal tool was selected when this problem first became apparent. I have tried the node tool as you suggested but it makes no difference, in fact i have tried all tool without any result. I cannot help thinking this is something really daft that i have done or am missing..
Hmm... have you changed any Viewport settings that you know of?
to the best of my knowledge i have changed nothing at all.
Hi
I will try and be as specific as i can regarding this problem. The two screen shots i include show my interface with DS4.6.0.18 pro. I have made sure that the surfaces tool is selected, but this actually makes no difference, because normally one can select surfaces whatever tool is selected, and mostly i leave the universal tool in play.
Last night i was experimenting with shaders, trying to achieve a granite effect, and during this process i noticed i was unable to remove certain areas of the character from the selection. For example i was trying to make the head and body granite but leave the eyes and nails natural. Usually i can deselect parts such as these with no problem, but for some unknown reason i found that i could not do so on this and subsequent occasions.
The only way i can get the surfaces editing panel ( not sure if thats the correct name, but the pane to the right of the character selection window ) into play and therefore useable, is if the character itself is highlighted, and then i cannot select individual parts for editing.
In my first post on this i had some assistance from Jaderail but due to the late hour i had to shut down, and i notice there has been no further response from him on this subject.
I have tried removing Daz completely, well by using the uninstaller, not a total removal of course, and the installing agin. No effect at all on the problem. I had not realised just how much i use the surfaces area, its a little like have a limb removed, and i am really quite lost without it.
I have searched the forums for references to the surfaces tab, but its a little like looking for a needle in a haystack…
Any one with any solutions would earn my total gratitude….
I hope the three screen shots help explain the problem if my words have not been sufficient...
An update which makes the whole thing slightly more of a puzzle. I can get to the editing side by selecting a property and then using the drop down menu. This is fine if i only want to select one thing, but it doesn't work for multiple selections. So for example to select say the head and neck and maybe the arms, i have to do each of these individually....
New screen shot to illustrate this...
Merged threads on this issue.
Is this happening only with a certain scene file, or is it affecting all versions of that figure, or even all figures?
Hi Richard
This happens with everything, not just figures but props too, as far as i can see the entire spectrum is affected. Thanks for merging the posts, sorry if i broke some rule here..
Please right-click on the tab of the Surfaces pane and when a menu opens take a screen-shot of it and post it here.
This is it
Hmm, nothing odd looking there - you have the same options as me and I'm not seeing this issue. Try reloading your layout - Window>Workspace>Select Layout... - though this will of course remove your customisations unless you save them first - Window>workspace>Save layout.
And problem appears to be solved, i will bide my time for a final sigh of relief though. I don't really understand why this happened, but then much in life and and in what i encounter in computer land leaves me scratching my head...
Thank you so much for you time, i appreciate it...
