Educating Myself
I was actually looking for other things in the store today and I stumbled upon some educational videos and stuff. So I got to thinking...yeah, I can futz around with scene arrangement, lighting, texturing, and modelling in Carrara, Hexagon, Bryce, and DAZ Studio, but there's a lot of information that I can probably get in a more efficient way just by seeing and trying the techniques in some of these videos.
I found a bundle from Dreamlight, in the store here. It's big and it's expensive, but it comes with four educational videos and a bunch of content items too. And with a PC membership, it really cuts the cost way down. It sounds like some of this might be worth my time and my money, especially if it reduces the learning curve in any significant way and helps me to get past the technical details so that I can start thinking in terms of scene and story.
Although street learning is valuable in its own right, I've never been too proud to pay for part of my education. But I need some advice so I can make good choices. Has anybody here tried either the Dreamlight training videos or other training videos? I've already watched all of the Mark Bremmer freebie videos for Carrara 7, and I know his site has some good paid ones too.
Thanks in advance!

They are good, but know this, they are mostly generic to cover the concept being taught. Not specific to any one program unless it says so. You still need the tech info for the program/programs you plan to use to get the best use from them.
Good point. Concept vs. implementation.
A few to consider: I would recommend Predatron's lights for newbies as you can play around with intensifying and dimming them and get such a nice variety of results. http://www.daz3d.com/predatron-ds-lights
http://www.daz3d.com/cloud-nine-for-daz-studio is also one to wishlist for when it goes back on sale.
