I wanted to somehow paint and use a nebula. This is what I came up with.

Obvious postwork is obvious ;)

The colors are really good together- so you painted that background from scratch if I'm understanding correctly?

Yes. I used my new Wacom tablet, which is a lot of fun. I'm trying to move my trad drawing to the computer for a number of reasons.

Well, it looks STELLAR. We just got the Intuous wacom tablet (went with medium size) and my sons are fine tuning their skills. It does take some getting used to , doesn't it?! I like the way yours turned out. Did it take you very long to do it, and where did you start? I'm a "start in the middle person."

Stellar? Well, with that subject matter... ;) Joking aside, thank you for the kind words!

I got the Basic Bamboo tablet - it's a hobby, and I haven't done much drawing in years. First, I want to get a feel for things before I spend serious cash.
Yes, it's definitely different than trad drawing! Good thing I'm somewhat familiar with Photoshop already - without knowledge of layers and brushes and stuff, things would be much slower.

I started out with a very general shape, and refined that further, until I liked the looks. As someone said, this isn't finished, just abandoned, though! Took maybe two hours, all told, broken up over a week of putting in some work each evening. I don't intend to specialize in space art (though some people on deviant art produce stunning stuff), I just this one image in my head.

Depending on how much you know about Photoshop, 3dbuzz.com has videos (24 free ones) with Zac Parrish which are AWESOME. We paid the extra $30 something and watched all 94 of them. It is SO worth it. Sadly he left 3dbuzz. If you get time, take a peek. It's only CS5 but a lot has not changed (we have the latest edition. This isn't a hobby for my sons. I personally haven't started with it yet.)

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

I've been watching videos at http://ctrlpaint.com and at http://www.fengzhudesign.com/tutorials.htm which are also quite good, imo.
