Marmi3D - Playing with DAZ3D
Hi all,
I'm primarily a photographer and have worked in many aspects of the photographic industry here in Australia.
For the past 4 years I've been working with photo labs on their in-store marketing and providing them promotional artwork they can print through their various printers to promote their services.
Initially I was helping these clients with the support aspect of running their printers which transformed into the digital artwork they could use through these devices.
I started with buying stock and shooting my own images for the artwork which ultimately became expensive and time consuming ...
About three years ago I decided to investigate 3D modelling applications and to use these characters as opposed to real people / photographs for the elements I required.
I'd been familiar with Poser for years and hadn't given it much thought, now I was looking for a specific application I went and sourced the "demo" of Poser and started playing around. I didn't get very far and went back to using stock, in the meantime the Poser "demo" expired and I was billed the full price from the vendor ... not happy! After some emails it was sorted out and I decided I'd never use applications from that seller again due to the strange software demonstration practices.
This also left a bad taste in my mouth and once again I shelved the use of 3D modelling applications for my work and continued shooting my own elements ...
A year later I stumbled upon DAZ 3D Studio 4 and I was hooked ... since then all the artwork I've created has been based around DAZ 3D Studio with some help from blender, Hexagon, zBrush, Vue 11, After Effects and of course Photoshop.
Most of the artwork I've produced has been for retailers to promote the main annual events, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas etc.
The images below in this first post are slightly different in that they're specific to one client and showcase some of their services. Everything has been setup and rendered in DAZ 3D Studio 4.5 Pro.
I'll post more soon ... enjoy :-)
Regards,
Michael

Here's some more ...
While Halloween isn't as big here in Oz as elsewhere it's still well known enough to promote so we've done a couple of years now with Halloween themed artwork.
The images below were edited for one client to use in their HDTV shown in the front window of their store ...
I'll update this post later with some links to the DAZ products used.

This set was produced for Father's Day with HDTV and Print artwork included.
Usually I use the character for Mother's Day and Father's Day in each calendar year so I can reference them in each campaign. In the images here you can see the Mother on all the prints / iPhone the Father has with him while on his business trip away ...

When I produce new artwork for my clients I email them a teaser to announce there's new artwork coming and for them to get ready to promote the latest event.
I use the same graphics from the main artwork within my email blasts.
The images below are from Christmas a couple of years ago and is still one of my favourite campaigns ... I'll post more of these soon.
These images were concept artwork for the front page of a client website.
The client is in the entertainment industry providing actors and extras.
They didn't go with this idea instead using some of my photography of their main actors with text added to the empty areas.
When I'm not rendering and noodling around with DAZ Studio I photograph actors and musicians for a living.
Plus some more ...
This was the artwork teaser for my photo retail clients to see the line up of annual event characters coming in 2012. The character missing from this is the Witch I did for Friday 13th, I think she was still rendering when I put this all together ...
Prior to doing the 3D characters I relied on 2D cartoon characters and photography, I'll post some of these in future ...
Frontpage website graphic for a client ... original is wider to include space for text and links.
I've produced several interior concepts with clients to showcase their photo products (prints, frames, photo mugs etc) but sadly don't own them so can't add to the thread ...
This was one of the first and is actually still the concept graphic (that is I think it's unfinished). Client loved it and uploaded to their site immediately
All rendered in DAZ
Chair is a freebie from : http://www.designconnected.com
More client website graphics.
These were used for the online store to showcase products related to self storage and furniture protection.
Originally the client was going to send actual products in to be photographed.
These images were done as place holders until the real items arrived and were photographed in my studio ... the client liked these images and decided to not send the products.
This little guy was done for Easter this year and so far is my favourite campaign!
These were produced for my clients to add their own details to and display on their in-store HDTV screens.

It's fascinating to see the content used this way. It looks totally different from the usual uses for illustration or stand-alone images.
Thanks Richard,
The main reason is to look different from what everyone else is doing and also get the client message across.
Looks like it's working ... client supplied images from Valentine's Day this year.
Client supplied images (Oct 2012) for the front window display on a 42" HDTV.
Initially we did graphics for them in horizontal format to suit the screen.
After a few days they realised too much window real estate was being lost so they switched the screen vertically ... we then had to re-do all the graphics for this orientation.
From this point on all our HDTV graphics are produced in both orientations, like most of our files for print.
Vertical versions ...
Client supplied images from their Father's Day campaign this year.
I think it would feel very odd to suddenly come across the stuff from the store sitting out there in a shop - but very cool to see too.
Just want to say great job mate! Assuming these are in one of the major cities I kinda have an urge to drive down there to see em! Not every day you see Daz studio stuff on a store front :) I'm amazed how well you've used 3D items from the store to get clients message across some of ideas I simply wouldn't have thought of. Fantastic! :cheese:
Thanks for the kind words Spyro. Where are you based?
I'm negotiating for next years contract now with some of the stores so will be interesting to see where the graphics will end up next year.
My clients sign up for a 12 month contract and receive about 8 campaigns per year with between 5 to 12 sets (product ranges).
Next campaign will hopefully be Christmas this year. I've slowed down promoting this work in 2013 as there's so much going on with my photography and website businesses I've been swamped so a little breather is needed. I've been doing custom graphics solely for clients who want something specific but always within the Toon style so far ...
