How to prepare freebies?

I wasn't really sure where to put this so new users help forum it is! ;)
Anyway, I was working on a small project the last couple days with the intention of sharing as a freebie.
Now that the modelling part is over I realize that I have no idea where to go from here lol
Right now all I got is a saved scene and saved scene assets. I'm assuming I would need to save as DSON?
So, can someone please explain how I would go about preparing the files and runtime for sharing?
I want all the files I saved as scene assets to be shared. How can I go about doing this?

It depends what they are. Clothing, props... ?
Furniture, so props?
Well, if you wish for people who still use DS 4.0 and below to use them, then save them out as a DSF. There really is no set folder of where to save props where DS is concerned, but the way it goes generally is...
My Library (main runtime- you can also name this folder Content)
- \data (this is where DS geometries are found- you'll find yours under Author\Product that you define when saving the DSF)
- \Props (save the actual DSF file here in a folder titled the same as the prop, with any materials presets in a subfolder named Materials)
- \Runtime\textures (this is where any textures used for your materials get saved to, again save them in a folder with the same name as the prop)
What some people do is create a faux runtime on their desktop with the structure they need, then go through their actual runtime and gather the files and put them in the faux runtime to zip up.
File > Save As > Support Asset > Figure\Prop for DUF (again, 4.5+ only)
File > Save As > Deprecated > Character for DSA
Not quite sure how to save as a DSF, at least not in 4.6.
I'll give it shot, post back with results soon...
Thanks for the help :)
Np. Good luck.
I seem to have gotten it to work, sort of lol
I ended up saving as a scene subset, copying that and the data files and it works fine on my other computer.
It's un-textured, so I don;t have to worry about that. My question is would this "scene subset" be a problem or is it ok to share this way?
That I'm not sure of, I've never tried distributing one. Hopefully someone more familiar with subsets will see this and chime in.
The Scene subset itself is fine, but of course you can include the \data folder contents only for items that are purely your own work.
If I could distribute other peoples work I'd be rich by now lol Thanks for the clarification on the scene subset.
Saving as a figure/prop asset seems to be the way I want to go though.
Here's an image of what I've been working on. As you can see, there are a lot of different/separate parts. (Pic shows one "assembled" and one "separated. Think IKEA type of stuff"
Is there no way to save all the objects together using the figure/prop asset? or do they all have to be saved individually?
Looks very IKEA to me, looking great!
But does it come in one big pile of boxes and we have to attach all polygons ourselves ? ;-)
No. It comes set up. The idea being (and I'm sure you can see by looking at it) that with just these pieces, you can create..pretty much anything lol A bookshelf, design a different desk, a tv stand etc
Since they are just boxes, scaling shouldn't be a problem. Everything is also UV mapped if anyone wants to add a texture.
Before releasing it, I do plan on having "presets" like the desk, a bookshelf and anything else I can come up with. Then, each object can be loaded by itself as a prop for MOAR building!!! ;)
Pretty much a construction kit...a poor mans construction kit lol
:ohh:
I agree that looks like a very nice set.
So I found away around my little figure/prop/subset issues.
Basically, to get to the files you would use content library, DS Formats->My Library->Scene Subsets->Mike, Here you will find pre-assembled models like you see below, then click on another folder and you get the props. Works perfectly and I don`t think anyone would have a problem finding them..
Anyway, everything in the image below, was made in Daz using the props from the image in my earlier post :) I plan on doing a few more assembled models before I upload, but considering this is a help forum I think this will be my last update here. Unless someone can chime in on the figure/prop stuff...
PS The wall shelves and the mirror thing took less than 10 minutes each to set up. I don`t have any lighting setups on this computer so excuse the ugly shading.
Very nice. I'm going to keep an eye out on this thread. :)
I said no more updates in this thread so you're going to be waiting a looong time
