Iray or 3Delight

Hi there,

When I give my character a base skin (rsl), it appears much warmer and lighter of colour in the viewport than a base skin (mdl). Only in the NVDIA Iray Display do these skins look similar. Can anyone explain what the difference is between 3Delight (rsl) and Iray (mdl) and why they look so different in the texture display. Thanks!

  • They are materials for two different render engines (Iray, the current default, and 3Delight) - how they look in the Texture Sahded view (OpenGL) depends on whether their shader has an OpenGL equivalent and on what properties are used (the preview can't do things like SSS, but it can try to guess the effect if it recognises the property). In geenral, if you are using the Iray engine, you want to use the MDL materials if there are any.
