Create a new primitive, click on it with the Surface Selection tool (from the Tools menu), File>Save As>Shader Preset, give it a name and accept the default settings.
Load and select Mei Lin, find the preset you just saved, hold down the cmd (Mac) or ctrl (Win) key and double-click the preset, in the dialogue that appears choose the option to apply it to all surfaces isntead of just selected surfaces.
