I am thinking of creating a second base directory which I can 'turn on' and off depending on what I want to render. I'm running into a lot of slowness when I load male characters, and I admit to having a ton of morphs, most of which I don't use. So I think one of the projects I will try this week, is creating a new runtime, to activate, and deactivate which will just have boyd and Owen and their morphs. Then when I need to add the othter guys, I will load their directory.

It is sad, but I think it is strange that by now, DAZ Store, has not come up with a way to stop every possible morph from loading.

I have a new laptop I was thinking of creating a 2nd DS install on for that purpose although I spend more time reading then rendering actually.

I think they haven't really needed to until now, so they didn't think about it. With Genesis 1 and 2, there just weren't that many characters or addons. With Genesis 3, by the time all that started to become an issue, Genesis 8 came along. Now with G8 in the middle of year 3 with no end in sight, weekly "major" releases, and with more G8 characters than in all the previous Genesis generations combined (and that doesn't count add-on morphs and expressions and all that), things are getting kind of dire.

I've got a computer with some serious muscle, and even so, now it takes a fairly notable amount of time to load G8M. Unfortunately, the stuff I don't use more frequently is hard to isolate, beyond a few expression sets.

  • I was thinking of putting the basics, Owen, and Boyd, Michael 8, and  base male, and the skins and hairs from all the guys. Then taking the whole g8m morph folder out of the DAZ data file.  I'll throw that in the second DAZ runtime. When I need a monster, or a figure, I can always run the installer.

Okay so I followed through with my threat today- I removed everything but the morphs for Owen and Boyd. I could tell which ones I had to add back by loading the character, and adding only the ones it claimed were missing.

Weirdly, it kept asking for FW Quinton. I have not added FW stuff to Etiher OWen or Boyd, and yet, it kept asking it.

So a friend suggested I run the Ultimate Zero product. It would show which figure had it. And apparently, Boyd has FW Quinton dialed in, and he doesn't have it showing in his morphs or hiddden morphs. I just don't understand how that could be! If I remove it, Boyd is shorter by a few inches. For the hidden morphs are affecting him somehow.

  • Okay I highly recommend purging your morphs folder. The change is unbelievable. It had gotten so bad, just moving figures, and applying poses took forever. Now with such a lean runtime, I can pose my figures with ease, my viewport is even faster.

Yeah, I'll have to deal with setting up those other characters in my second rauntime. But... That can wait.

That sounds like Quinton's morph may have a non-zero number as its default. It wouldn't show up as used or hidden because it's still at default. Quinton actually has an update listed:

2017-08-30 - Updated character preset to correctly apply to existing figures.

What that means, I don't know, although the "existing figures" part may be a clue. Maybe try reinstalling Quinton to see if that fixes whatever is going on?

I wish I could, but the way I work with things, I'm not sure I can. But I suppose I'll need to do something soon. Even with a computer with a decent amoung of power, loading takes ages, and a few characters are weirdly unresponsive.

That's actually what I just did. I left the front files -- presets -- alone, and just went into the data directory and pushed things out. I put everything into a backup folder, so if something complains about not being able to be found, it's easy enough to copy back into place.

I had a weird fit of buying aliens, for some reason. No idea why. I think it was maybe during a holiday sale, or else they were freebies or something. Or else I had a plan for something that didn't happen when I bought them, and then completely forgot what it was.

Anyway, just doing that cut loading time for base G8M about in half, which isn't bad. For some reason, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference for clearing the scene and deleting objects, but it makes a big difference in loading time.

And this was just in time to add two more guys! Maybe what I'll need to do is to try to maintain some sort of stasis -- for every guy/morph set bought, someone gets voted off the island.

  • Lol! G8m survivor! Who next is going to get voted off? You can just chuck those sad undesirableables  and the aliens in another directory you just map when needed. That is the end goal for me. But I also may simply just download them when needed.

unfortunately everything is a morph these days...expressions, weird things.   While there is still a slight lag applying some poses, now my machine doesn't shudder when I have the Boys in my scene.

Here's the New PRZ White Tie outfit. What can I say. Go buy it now? Or don't complain to me about no one making nice male content. wink

I almost didn't buy it but put it on my wishlist but then thought twice at how exceptionally well crafted they modeled and textured it so I went ahead and bought it now.

I haven't seen (or noticed at least) a set that nice and comprehensive since the Law Enforcement Officer Bundle or the Firefighters Bundle back in Genesis 3 (although both those were more comprehensive). Maybe I'm overlooking another set but I can't recall one right now. I guess the Egypt sets or the Victorian Sets with the coach buggy but then all those are thematic sets and this is meant to be a standalone outfit.

I have a render of the PRZ White Tie Outfit in my gallery. I'm really impressed with this product so far. Before buying, I looked at your comments, of course. You are an excellent filter for what is good and what is not so good.

I didn't buy MST Akhenaten. I didn't think it had any resemblance to the famous Akhenaten statue. None of the Egyptian characters looked very Egyptian to me. I passed on all of them and all their bundles.

I love your render. Tres bon!  I think the PRZ White Tie Outfit will see plenty of use by me. I want to redo the Kelly family wedding pics with that  outfit. I am also curious how shaders will look on it. Thanks for sharing.

Did you see this post ? Protozoon recommended a shader pack that works well. I put it on my wishlist.

  • Those look good! I hope they go on sale soon!

I'm awaiting your comments on https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-mi-casual-outfit-for-genesis-8-males. Did you buy it? I didn't like the high water look of the short pant legs, but I saw a thread showing that there was a morph to lengthen the pants and also one to lower the waist. I think both would improve the look of the product for me. I'm probably just out of touch with fashion.

By default out of the box, that outfit  is better than the market's usual fare.

Yes, the  pants and ankles are both highwater, and dad style, however this is the exact way my dad wore his pants, so to me, it looks 'real' especailly for older guys.

The shirt fits pretty well, but the pants look like they need dforce because the waist is very big, and hangs odd on Boyd. I am dforcing now.

The outfit includes a small watch.

Lengthening the pants, improved the look of the ankle gap. I need to see if there is a foot pose, since the shoes look odd in the pose i chose.

Simulating did not make a huge difference for me, in the fit of the pant. The waist gap still seems bigger han it needs to be. Unfortunately, after 8 minutes, even with the most benign and dofrce friendly pose I selected... I got this...

This illustrates why I avoid dforce outfits. I can't afford to waste time with something that is going to do this...

I wish mens' outfits in the store like this were both conforming, AND dForce

    i will try again tomorrow.

Yikes, that is not suppose to happen like that.  Serene, can you provide the morphs you used on boyd so I can try and see if I can replicate that.

I am also sorry that this did not meet your needs.  You are more than welcome to return it.  For my next attire i'll try and make it both conforming and dforce to allow more options for you guys.

If you have anymore feed back please let me know.

    Thanks!

I did a review on Novica's thread here  I did not have any trouble with it exploding when I dforced but I did set the Tuckin_waistpulldown morph before i dforced it also I did have Start bones from memorized pose turned on.  I also used the waistpullleft & right morphs to fix the to wide waist line. Some of the morphs I had to uncheck the limits to use and get the results I wanted.

I often have trouble using dforce. First it takes too much time. And then second, I get explosions. I just want clothing to fit, and work out of the box. It is why I buy it. I'm not much of a tweaker, but I think if you use figures with different morphs, or close poses, it doesn't fit well.

I honestly wish we would return to conforming. I can't tell what will work or not, before  simulate. And wasting time simulating something that will explode is frustrating.

Okay, so for the sake of round 2 I chose this Elios 8 poses and expressions StandC pose which is the most dforce friendly pose I could find on short notice. (Why don't pas number their poses, Why?)  This is the outfit- without dForce. I used the waist tug down morph, and the morph to lower the ankles. I forgot to expand the watch band.

here's with dForce. I think the most noticible change is in the fit of the shirt. The pant fit changes with this pose are hard to detect. I fixed the watch band.

Finally, I used the pre-dforced version and reduced the scale of the pants 97 percent. There is pokethrough slighly with Boyd's HD morphs. I don't know of a way to avoid it, really, but the fit is better wtih the pants smaller.

They look Egyptian to me, at least based on the foresic reconstructions archealogists have done from Egyptian mummies.

Serene, I am curious, are you simulating from an A pose to your desired pose (Animated timeline)?  Or simulating from the desired pose / current pose.

From what I tested with DAZ is that if you sim from a current pose that has very closed in arm or legs it tends to explode.  DAZ doesn't seem to handle that correctly.  So simming it from an A pose allows the cloth to drape correctly first and then into the desire pose which tends to not let dforce clothing explode.

Also for the waist you can open the parameters for the expand waist and or other correction morphs to extend the slider for a better fit.

Here's a test I did as close to Boyd's body parameters.

Dforce is not forgiving of any clipping, so also make sure you dont have body parts clipping through the clothing or clothing clipping through clothing before starting sim.

If you have the arms down  toward the torso there will 100% be clipping between the under arm and torso (they intersect with eachother even on G8M base) and therefore also clipping with any sleeves.

Even in Marvelous Designer, i often have to reduce the lats or make arms thinner or else the under-arm and torso intersections make simulation difficult.
