Like most Brains and Alphas, to some extent Owen and Boyd can anticipate eachother's needs. In this case, Boyd anticipates Owen's going to get hungry before he puts the quiche in the oven and preps him a small sandwich. Owen however is being throroughly distracting so that Boyd is forgetting to chop.
Sadly, I wanted to chop actual vegetables but I could not find anything that looked like it was 'food in preparation stage ' besides baking goodies so we may just see the finished omelette/quiche.
I like to add a ton of clutter to my scenes, and I think the kitchen may still need MOAR stuff on the counter. The far section looks kinda bare and there are only 3 coffee espresso drinks on the counter. There needs to be more scene junk, but I suspect the quiche is going to be put on hold in a few minutes.
Have you seen the Brain Copy Machine over at R. I saw it and thought of you
thats great! Perfect for transferring Boyd around in his disembodied form. i love those little brain carriers.
Grandpa Silas will pop up from time to time. I’ve been meaning to do a Owen and Silas meets Boyd’s stuffy rich parents but haven’t had specific inspiration.
Owens mother is also a character I have to design but since she’s basically a villain she is likely only to be seen in newsclips.
Owen's family is getting interesting. Outlaw Gramps and villainous mothers! I couldn't help but notice that Silas, in his transplanted body, looks a little like he's also related to Boyd. Is there going to be a... shall we say, revelation, down the line?
And I think Boyd needs to confess to the fact that he's putting glue on his abs before getting dressed, to make sure his shirts cling in juuuuust the right places.
Any resemblance is purely coincidental.
Grandpa is a stunning redhead from Ireland. The charges against him were actually false, but in the future it is far easier to frame an innocent man with technology if you need to. grandpa doesn’t need to steal stuff, he is a genius and can build his own things from the ground up. Which is why the charges and the frame job were ludicrous but grandpa was young back then and the corporation had better lawyers. The company gets rich off of patents and bots created by grandpa in his younger days though. And this is eventually set aright by the owners daughter.
Owens mom was bullied in school and mistreated by genetically modified teens and fell in with a bad crowd...so she develops a hatred for people who are genetically modified and blames them for her troubles. She joins a human supremacists movement which is anti gene mods, and spent most of her younger years lugging Owen to protests and rallies as her occupation as paid protester. A child protective services ai takes Owen from her custody after she is accused of neglect and her boyfriend uses Owens cyber dog to smuggle drugs. She’s basically one of the reason Owen has trouble passing background checks because her criminal acts raise flags now and then. Needless to say Owen has no liking for mom.
Boyd’s new body is Aesir class and totally a generic soup of Ideal physical and mental characteristics. It’s perfect in every way but one... the reason why it was returned. He doesn’t have any dna from grandad so I think they are safe there. Ethnically he is Scottish, Swiss,African, and various others. He’s so modified he should have gmo stamped on him somewhere.
As far as the shirts go, that’s probably a blessing and a curse. All that static cling.... grrr.l. And you can’t gain a pound when your shirt is THAT tight
That sounds like something the more conservative of my own characters could get involved in, TBH. Except, they would be active in that movement at a point in time when genetically modified humans weren't actually a reality yet. 90% of my protagonists are solid anti-heros, because that's what I most enjoy writing. (And identify with?) I love how they're human supremacists though, as if ethnicity and background don't matter to them anymore. But yeah, I realise that for all intents and purposes they're still racist.
I've missed that part. Who returned it, and why?
He's illegal in the European Union! Discrimination! Out of curiosity, what would he have looked like if his original body hadn't been destroyed by illness?
If they just wanted to live a gene modified free lifestyle, they'd Probably be okay.
In the future though, most people have small gene tweaks and it is fully covered health benefit. So they do it as a matter of course. Asthma, acne, allergies, vision issues, skin issues, thinning hair, whatever. Gene splices for all sort of things can be bought at bodymod shops, and insurance covers most genetic illness tweaks. Its just cheaper to alter a person's dna, and pay for recovery than to pay for a person's lifetime illness.
The mililtary will also pay for gene tweaks, so that is an incentive for poorer folks to sign up. They will also give you a fresh new body when you retire... So they don't have to pay for your lifetime health and wellness.
The problem is the wealthy do take advantage of this and get bigger and more extensive mods. And they have their children genetically fixed in utero be stronger, faster, smarter, better metabolism.
Fortunately, human dna can only be stretched so far, so while there are a fair amount of people with designer bodies, most people may have one or two overall and a few later in lfie splices.
Unfortunately, where it gets to be a problem is gene-modded kids, do better in school, take more advanced classes and often are in college by the time they are drafted. So its the poorer children, who tend to makeup the bulk of the lower ranks in the military and other walks in life.
The body was recalled, and returned because the owner didn't like a part of the anatomy. It was likely commissioned by a very wealthy person, since it has an extreme amount of additional mods and implants.
Boyd's current body is Aesier class body. Initially he commissioned a body to be made from his own DNA (minus the illness ) but by the time it is ready Earth is at war, and bodies are in short supply. Before he can incarnate his new body, it is seized by the government for an injured government official for whom it is genetically compatible, and he has to sue the Goverment to get another. Something that doesn't happen until Boyd is about 27. The government official is a real cat, and we may see him someday, but he goes on to have affairs with numerous women spreading Boyd's normal DNA far and wide. Boyd can't stand the guy, and has to switch the tv off everytime he comes on, because, the guy is essentially wearing his body and being awful with it.
The new body was chosen by Boyd for its fighting capacities. By this time, Boyd's single goal is to rescue Owen (who has been sent on a dangerous mission), so when the government finally agrees to compensate him for his body, he is allowed to choose another from the bodymart of equal value. He finds this body had been recalled, but is fascinated by it- and it is clearly a superior body. The bodymart tries to steer him away from this body, but this is the one he wants, and he insists.
The company who manufactured Boyd's body went out of business, and there are only a few of this type available. They are pretty heavily modded and customizable.
But all that gene modding produced one recessive trait in this entire line, and the body and all Aesir's have it.
He was tall, we know that much, and had light eyes and blonde hair. His skin was tan. He was about 1/4 black, and I tried to make his new body also 1/4 black.
This is the new Sci-fi Task force outfit. The set has masculine lines and has several texture options. It looks great!
Serene Night "But all that gene modding produced one recessive trait in this entire line, and the body and all Aesir's have it. "
and that recessive trait is .........????/ I'm on pins and needles here !!! What is it ? Please?
I haven't quite decided on this, but this is what I've been thinking...
They were designed to be perfect, but have vivid birthmarks. (I say birthmarks but since they aren't really born, its more of a skin pigmentation issue)
They were supposed to be the fully customizable people. They can alter their eye color and skin color. Unfortunately the tech which allows them to change their pigmentation is not perfect, and resulted in patches of places where the pigmentation tech goes haywire and results in very different coloration that the person can't change. Since the bodies being customizable was a selling point this is a major flaw. Whats unusual about this is none of the previous lines of bodies had this problem only the Aesirs. But this entire production line has this problem. Is it a mutation? Or sabotage? Or an unforseen consequence of the color changing tech? Alien tampering?
The company meant to try again, but was heavily invested in this product line, and goes out of business, and bankrupt so most of the stock is destroyed, or sold at low bid.
Boyds body was a special order, and contains a number of features that are not found in regular Aesir body. The identity of the owner is unknown but it is likely the person was in the military or special forces or just super rich... They ordred it, and died before they could use it or maybe they didn't want it after the recall.
At any rate, Boyd is lucky to be at the bodymart when this one comes in, since he snaps it up right away.
LOL, that's a lot less embarrassing than where my gutter-mind automatically went. When you said the first owner didn't like part of the anatomy, I thought "Oh, so that's why Boyd rides huge bikes... Compensating."
Wow, I read that a bit too literally, at first. I saw him as a big, feline biped, also heavily GMO'ed.
The birthmark probably would put off people who invested a huge amount of money in a body. For Boyd who desperately wants a body it is a non issue. He’s been a brain in a bot for over 21 years. He’s not picky about that.
There are people who do body mods to look like cats. But it is just surgery. There are also people who are the spitting images of famous people like Elvis etc. dna is bought and sold on and off the black market, if there is a viable sample of a famous person someone’s made a body from it. Cloning actual people is technically illegal and famous people copyright themselves but it happens and dna harvesters make all kinds of wild claims, including you may have the dna of a king!
the ability to harvest dna opens up and changes the law. For example.... the senator who has multiple kids with Boyd’s body. The children are biologically born Boyd’s kids however, legal responsibility is a different matter. Dna is no longer the smoking gun it once was. It can’t be when the body banks are filled with cloned bodies and people are harvesting dna from not always knowing donors. It’s pretty easy to get a dna sample if you want to.
That could make things really interesting, in a way. For example, if the senator had unintentionally fathered a child that he didn't know about, and the woman didn't know who he was or that he was using someone else's body, sort of. How does this society handle orphans? It seems like it would be very easy for the state to do gene testing, find the donors (voluntary or otherwise), and then say, "Your genes, you get to be responsible." (Although, I suppose, technically that wouldn't affect Boyd, since those technically aren't his genes any more. I wonder what his body donor's genes got up to in their wild and crazy youth?)
Separate question: how hard is it to learn to navigate a flesh-and-blood body after having been in a bot for so long?
Unfortunately a person who lost their body as a younger person like Boyd did will have trouble transitioning back. Essentially the longer they are away from it, the more difficult it can be. Even brains who choose humanoid mechanical bodies have trouble since being human is much more than just walking, and talking.
Things like resting, dressing, speaking, handling emotions, socializing and physical pain are things brains do differently in mechanical bodies. Many brains need to relearn life basics, like walking, talking, handwriting, etc. Even with the jump start they receive from chips which help them learn life skills quickly, they may have difficulty or seem awkward in performing day to day task.
Brains do have the ability to 'pair up' with their designated partners to learn, faster, just like a human brain does with it's body. Boyd for example can learn things that Owen can do faster, than he could normally when they practice this technique. Boyd is essentially... A second brain, and he can learn things Owen can do like... How to reload a gun, how to ride a bike. Likewise Owen can crib off Boyds skills.
It isn't uncommon for a brain who gets a body to go a bit 'wild' with the new sensations, as most brains only have visual, audio, and very limited taste sensations in their robotic bodies. Partners like Owen are cautioned about this tendency and are supposed to watch their brains carefully and guide them through this transition experience until they get accustomed to it. But some do change when getting bodies. Drastically.
Boyd does have trouble with his new body. Firstly the vision is extremely limited compared to what he is used to. He had a big eye as a scout bot, and his vision as Boyd the man is limited to two eyes and a sensor in the back of his head. Sensations like cold, pain, and hunger are foreign to him. He is also a bit awkward with balance as gravity in the human body is different. For the first few weeks of getting a body, he is limited to liquid and plain food. he has to learn to chew, dress, and act human. He may have limited writing skills, and while he can type in his head, writing and typing is hard. Things like colds, sickness and illness are also foreign, as is simple facial expression, hygiene etc.
Then there are hormones, biological urges, jealousy and talking. behaving appropriately, like wearing the right thing, saying the right thing etc. All things we take for granted.
Boyd is a very social brain, with a psych degree, so he is a bit better off than most, but learning basic skills can take a while to learn, and when he gets his body he is off to rescue Owen, so he's hardly learned anything yet. Fortunately, Owen is fairly good at being human, and once he gets over the fear gas, can help Boyd make the transition much easier.
It is possible Boyd tried once before to embody his body and failed while Owen was gone. If so the duration would not have been long and the body would’ve been placed in cold storage for him to use later once his assignment is over.
It is impossible to hide paternity in the future much as it is now unless you and your entire family for several generations are off the grid.
If your relatives have been tested, you can easily be located because your DNA will be like theirs. It would be easy to triangulate your relationship to them because they would be shown to be related. So an orphan seeking to find out who daddy is, has a good chance of discovering it, by going to a service, and getting tested even if the donor body's name is different because of a brain transplant, the relationship to other people would still exist and the orphan could use that to triangulate that their daddy is likely the relative of that person as most genetic tests show relationships now as a matter of course, i'm sure tests of the future would be even more detailed.
As far as orphans go, the future is probably a bit better at handling that than today. Advances in monitoring, and AI, and robots can give enough attention to every child placed in the system and track them and their needs efficiently. There is no longer hunger in the future, due to advantages in food tech. You may not like the food, but no one starves. Also fosters are closely monitored and culled when under performing. Caring for children is a privileged class in society, exempt from Military service, so many fosters strive to do a good job at it so these priviliges aren't revoked. Also as the war continues on, Children are needed to replenish populations of workers. so there are incentives for having and adopting children.
As far as holding genetic donors responsible for their kids, proving that may someone is daddy or mommy involve more than DNA.
There are likely series of bodies with similar DNA. It would make sense if you are making bodies for mass production that you don't do anything from scratch. Figuring out which one is daddy may require more than just matching DNA you'd likely need more evidence. I'm sure they try to alter a few things, to make each one unique, but there is likely a similarity in some companies base body models to muddy the waters even further. Marriage tests would have to take in body duplicate consanguinityI guess as well,.
In this case the senator with the inability to use birth control, would be liable for his kids, because when he received Boyd's body he'd get a dual gene profile. his original profile would still exist, because his brain tissue would contain that DNA, and his new body would also be assigned to him, much like a car is licensed to its new owner. He'd get liability for that body just as a car owner would.
The excessive amount of genetic engineering would muddy the waters of family lineages as well as create problems for people trying to prove their relationship and to seek inheritances. The system would be rife for exploitation, and fraud, so likely a whole new set of laws would need to be created. It is possible that the companies eventually are forced to verify uniqueness of their dna clones as a potential selling point for their clients.
In the end though, That senator's children will likely be more Boyd's biologcal descendants than his own kids which will have none of his own DNA, but Aesir DNA with unknown personality or traits. For all they know, the Aesir's natural brain might be.... Anything. Any child of Owen and Boyd would be quite interesting I imagine.
In the Redlight district, Owen and Boyd subdue a malfunctioning copbot, while some off duty sailors pitch in to help.
One of the reasons for doing this render, is I really wanted to renderthat brain/cybernetic bodypart the cop android has.
I haven't been able to fit it in anywhere, and because its at the back of his head, it just pretty invisible I was able to render so many characters, because the sailors have no hair, and that navy uniform does not take up a lot of hard drive resources.
Wow, that's great. I had to look around to find Boyd, since he was in his bodyless form.
Yes, he's in Boyd-Bot form. Probably he would've killed the render in his full HD body. I am shocked I got away with so many sailors. =-)
Man, I have owned Adventurer's jacket since it was released for G2M, and I never noticed the typo! In the store it's called Adventure's Jacket.
And looks like it is gone from the store.
Poking around, I suspect it may have been removed because one of the vendors no longer has any items active in the store. It was produced by Gravity Studios (still around) and Jr Pupn'such (not around under that name).
Thanks Vwrangler!

Make sure to check out MAXX. He comes with a nice bundle of items for the men, including a hair, two great looking bikinis and skin options in addition to the tat and the character. Plus, I think the promos for this character are wonderful.
MAXX has great promo images. Did you see the fantastic video? I expected a price twice as high.
That render made me think if an old movie had a fight scene, and it wasn't a western, then the fight scene included sailors fighting.
I like old movies a lot, and vintage stuff in general and it seems a very common theme where navy is involved that there will inevitably be some sort of brawl
Since Owen is a marine, it also makes some sense he'd be involved with Squids.
I happened to have all the sailors made in my 'extras' folder so it was no trouble to add them in.
I haven't seen the video. Is it linked to the product page?
Oooooh, were you listning to Life on Mars when you staged this, Serene?
Take a look at the sailors, fighting in the dance halls (Or outside a brothel, in this case.)
Oh no, look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest sho-o-o-ow
Take a look at the law-man, beating up the wrong guy (The cop-bot, because he malfunctioned, heh.)
Oh no, wonder if they'll ever know
It's a best-selling shoooooow
It is in the commercial thread.
oh, I love David Bowie. But no, it was pure expediency. I needed to add some extras and sailors always make good extras especially when marines are involved. =-)
