Totally hating DAZ - FIXED! :-)

I need help.I need REAL help here. I recently had to reinstall Windows 4 times in a row. Despite having my custom content backed up, upon a fresh install of Windows 7 DAZ lost my custom categories - which btw was a disaster.

I have tried everything to bring things back. Nothing has worked. Turns out DAZ decided one of my OLD - my OLD - back up copies of Windows was the standard path. I did NOT tell it to go to the path. I told it to use my custom content path, which is on an external drive. But no. It had to put the stupid content database in the third - not even the first!!! - back up of Windows and create a big mess.

I didn't know what to do except uninstall everything and delete ALL of the windows back up files.

And now DAZ won't reinstall. The installer crashes during the reinstallation of that horribly fragile content management.

I've went in and deleted the folders manually because I just don't know what else to do. I don't know how else to root this out of the system. But I can't reinstall DAZ. Bad enough the program is *always* losing my categories. Now I can't get it back into the system.

Please I hope someone can offer some real help here. I've lost a full day's pay worrying over this stupid situation. I can't keep having to deal with this everytime I turn around. I double checked the tutorials and as far as I could tell I did everything correct from the getgo, backing up my library. I should not have to be dealing with this every month.

Thanks, whomever can help. I'm so upset this is hour 8 of me going into fits of tears.

Well I went in and I deleted the APP data. And the main DAZ folder and the content management folder. It's still hanging. Same spot.

Thanks to everyone that has chimed in to help me. I think I'm of the opinion that there's nothing anybody can do at this stage. I mean, I did get DAZ installed. The content manager appears to be permanently broken. I uninstall, I reinstall, I start it. I stop it. It won't run. DAZ won't find any content, it won't search for content. I seriously. Seriously. Seriously. Hate. DAZ right now.

I just want to go a single month without DAZ losing my library and not having to go through this drama. Is this too much to ask for??

I know that no one can relate to how bad this is for me, but part of my livelihood depends on DAZ. So long as this problem remains that's over. And my comic? Someone just invested a LOT of money for me to be able to set up with DAZ to get back to working on it after a long hiatus. The loss of the folders and now this is VERY BAD. But, short of folks actually being over here....

Thank you very much to everyone who tried on this thread and the other that was related to restoring the library categories. It's late. Y'all are probably asleep by now. Luckeeee. But thank you. Y'all tried.

I hate to say this but it sounds more like a PC issue or Hard Drive issue. Not so much a Program issue. The Lose of the OS was caused by something that is effecting everything now.

Well, in a way you're right. The reason why I had to do a fresh install in the first place was because of hardware failure - which I know I go through a lot. The area I'm at has very frequent brownouts. I have a UPS.. finally... it took me a long time to save for it. But I didn't get it in time.

It turns out that I was uninstalling and reinstalling everything backwards. I found mention of the right order, did them in the right order (your posts were gone so I couldn't double check that way), moved my content backup over now that the programs was finally pointing to the correct folder and NOT inside my windows backup folders, and all fell back into place. I was actually surprised that it did that. I had lost all hope by that point.

I'm so... relieved. SO relieved. I just wish I didn't just accidentally end process right now....

And once again I gotta thank you (I swear you wear shining armor to bed) and everyone here that tried to help. I do back up that library frequently. I'm not sure what happened with the first install to create such a big mess, but at least it's fixed now.

    THANK YOU.
