My first Bryce / DS4 render (warning: very rough & newbie'ish)
Hi gang,
After trying & liking DS4 I quickly decided that I wanted the complete package (=options to create sceneries and 3d objects of my own) but without the requirement of going (semi-) professional. As such programs like Carrara or Poser are simply not for me; a bit too expensive, and also way too extensive for the things I want to do.
But Bryce & Hexagon really filled my requirements in both purchase price as well as the stuff you can do with them. I have yet to scratch the surface here!
Alas; I'm still quite the newbie and so I wanted some (quick) results ;)
And the eventual render can be seen below. The only reason I'm sharing is because I'm amazed at the result I got, especially when looking at the little effort I had to take. I know my way around DS4 but I'm very new to Bryce (I know how to pan around, apply materials, how to create objects, I can create a crude landscape and I learned how to control the sky).
What you have here is a character which I imported through BS4. Female ('Genesis') character and I simply used a swimsuit I bought last week and applied one of the poses in my collection.
In Bryce I simply changed the material for the floor and turned it into water. Then I created a crude landscape, resized and changed it a little bit and then sank it into the water in order to hide the squared looks (and to give it a more natural impression of an island).
Then I imported the previously mentioned character, selected everything and grouped it before resizing (at first I ended up with a nude model, a swimsuit floating behind her and her hair floating somewhere behind that; I quickly figured that the small 'G' icon might be able to help).
Then a little bit of a moving (turning) and replacing and then I got this.
Next all I did was to change the sky. Used the darker sky preset, then went over to the 'Sky lab' and placed the sun near the horizon in the back which created this look. And to avoid seeing nothing but a a few silhouettes I also added a small light source next to the model so that we get to see at least some details in my render ;)
As mentioned; this is hardly state of the art. Quite the contrary; the model doesn't even really fit the place where she's sitting (I tried looking for smoothing or flattening options, but that's where my inexperience shows, and I only had so much playtime today...).
Still; as mentioned before I also think it's not too bad considering that I spend no more than an hour on this. Which clearly shows the versatility of these programs IMVHO.
Anyway; enjoy :)

Hi Peter, very cool atmosphere concept. Would adjust her left leg a bit, throw a blanket underneath her. Happy rendering friend.
Ha, ha, ha, absolutely!
This is one of those sceneries I didn't merely make to get some quick results, I also plan on extending on this. In the mean time I learned that you can add extra material layers and that sand is a material which is supported out of the box. So that's my next step; moving her away from those painful rocks and placing her on a (small) beach.
Thanks for your comments.
Bryce rocks......but then I suppose I would say that.
Do come and join us in the Bryce forum, we are a very friendly bunch, have a long running render thread that is more like a discussion thread with images, and also has many tips and tricks and other cool things.
New Users are alwasy welcomed and regular members are very helpful.
We also run a monthly render challenge.
Hi Peter, Bryce was first program I used to learn 3D,. Awesome program ! Bryce can render some gorgeous landscapes/atmosphere, would share some, but lost all my work when hdd took a dive.
It's all cool friend, important thing is, having fun learning/experimenting. Art is unique, an expression of oneself. Looking forward to your future renders, happy rendering :-)
