This is my very first render in Daz I tried to export it into Bryce but it crashed so I thought I would try to render it in daz...What do you think??? Thanks in advance ...Trish
I like it, but agree that it needs shadows. Note that by default, a Spotlight or Distantlight doesn't cast shadows, you need to select the light in the Scene pane, then in the Parameters pane, click on Shadow, then change the "Shadow Type" dropdown from none to something else, you probably want to start with "Raytraced (Software Only)".
Once you have shadows, if you discover the shadows are too dark, you will probably want to learn more about methods of adding some ambient lighting, such as adding UberEnvironment or something similar.
Shadows... I didn't even think about that....This is so different for me then Bryce is..Thank you very much I saved it as a scene file so I will go back and take a look at what I can do....Trish
It definitely needs to be lit for depth, especially the distant trees needs to be darkened or defocused to create distance. And also put a speech balloon on the dog saying "You blinked!" Sorry about that, but it's the first thing that rushed to my mind when I saw this lovely render.
ok that took awhile...I have shadows but there are green and blue spots on the horses neck....What is that?? Keep telling me what is wrong so I will know what to look for next time....I appreciate everyones help.....Trish
There is a 3delight bug that throws odd coloured blocks with Depth Mapped Shadows. Sometimes a slight adjustment of camera angle will fix it, but switching to Ray Traced shadows is more reliable and I don't think the speed penalty will be too bad for that scene.
This is getting Real good, but as just mentioned deep shadow maps can cause errors. They are also much lower quality than Ray Traced shadow maps. For really good renders never do a final image with anything other than Ray Traced.
You also might wish to learn a bit about photographic composition. Like the Rule of Thirds and a few others. They explain how to set up images so the eyes automatically fall on the Focus of the image. That makes a image LOOK better to the eye, and the mind accepts it at first look as a good picture.
I have a DS4.5-4.6 Camera Prop that can be used for setting up scenes. If you care to look it can be found here: Golden Rules Camera Prop V1.5.
Very nice, and works well. I think you did well. I think it was a shame to lose so much of your scene. I was thinking set the lower right third point on the horses nose and not losing as much of the scene.
I like the zoomed in a lot better than the horizontal. The emphasis is on the arch of the horse's neck now, leaning down, which got lost in the other horizontal spread. So much better with the details- the shadows and lighting look very nice.
Now for background clutter- if you're gonna have it, it should be fuzzied out with depth of field, and even then, watch what's coming out of who's nose, top of head, ears...that horse has his chin almost resting on top of the barrel, the white square of the blue container is fighting for attention with the dog's uplifted face, etc. The dog's chin is resting on the black bucket. Try just moving your camera angle a bit up or down. :)
EDIT: And my horse wants to meet your horse and doggie!
Jederail; The reason I cut the scene down is because I have no idea what to do about a background....I tried to use worldbase in the first and second one....I am so used to Bryce where I can just create a mountain in the background...not sure what to do in Daz. Plus what do you do for a sky??
Novica; thanks ok deal we will introduce our animals....LOL I just found your video link that will help me a lot !!! thanks
If anyone's interested in seeing the light products, I am in-progress of testing them on one figure so you can compare them. My art studio thread is listed in my signature, go to the FIRST post and there will be a link to jump to that section.
Novica; Thank you I am enjoying reading your art studio.....Love your horses...Its nice that you posted the movements I have been around horses all my life, don't have any now...but I like looking at yours!! I went home last year to Indpls. and went to the horse fair and got to see these big guys

I like it. Have you included any lights or shaders in order to capture shadows and effects?
Was just gonna ask about shadows, Is a good render though.
What a lovely scene! I like it!
The background "drowns" the subjects a bit; you could turn Depth Of Field on on your camera to get the horse and the puppy to stand out more.

Wow! Your latest image has completely transformed your original project. I really like it.
Try an uber light as your distant light, then place a uber fill light, uber back light then run the highest quality script. It comes with Daz Studio.
Check out 3-point lighting and/or you may consider purchasing Masters of Light series that discusses, 7 point lighting. Worth every penny spent.
