Cloth adapting utility

DAZ 3D has an utility that pops up when you try to add items of clothing made for an earlier generation to a more recent generation of character, and asks you what character the item was made for and what type of clothing it is.

However, it doesn't seem to be complete. For instance, trying to add Genesis clothes to a Genesis 3 character, the drop down menu of the utility where you state what character the item was made for only propose two choices : "genesis 2" or "unsupported", not "genesis".

Is that normal, or am I missing something?

  • That's normal - prior to Genesis 8 each generation tended to have a clone for the matching sex in the previous geenration and the opposite sex of the current generation; older, or newer, figues are often supported by add-ons from various PAs - try searching the store for "clone" - and you can also make your own.

Thanks. However, all the clones I see are intended to adapt clothes of a more recent generation to a an earlier character (say, Genesis 8 for Victoria 4), not the other way around.

In the case I was mentioning, it was the clothes of an older generation (Genesis) for a newer character (Genesis 3). I was expecting that the utility would cover that. And I don't seem to see any clone that do that either.

Also, reading the description of a product, it mentions that clones remove bones in clothes. Should I expect that to happen if I use a clone?

For Genesis 3 to wear earlier generations' clothes, the product you want is Wear Them All.

  • AutoFit will project the rigging of the current figure into the clothing, so custom bones (skirt handles, bones for pigtails) will indeed be lost, yes - though Sickle Yield has some sets of projection templates (which is what the clothing type button uses) that will cover things like skirt/dress handles at least.

There are clones to skip more than one generation forwards. You can also go in stages - fit a Genesis item to Genesis 2, then fit that to Genesis 3.
