Intro & small forum question
Hi gang,
I've been wondering about 3d modelling for quite some time now and eventually, due to a reference from another 3d modelling kind of game, ended up here. I've played with poser in the past but decided against it due to price considerations (this is only a hobby / plaything for me) but I still wanted to have something substantial with which you could actually build something.
So when I discovered DS and the stuff you can do with it I was kinda sold.
The main thing which gave me a confident feeling about this place was that while I was ordering something free I also didn't have to supply any payment information. That's a very big deal to me; if you start asking for my credit card (or other info) while I'm trying to get a freebie then I'm gone (and optionally also demanding for my info to get removed).
And because I was looking for a complete package (but as said; not too expensive) I decided to go with Bryce & Hexagon as well so that I got all the tools one would need to build stuff yourself (I'm well aware that making your own models is a bit too much for me at this time, but I hope to be able and start build smaller stuff, clothing and such for example).
Also ended up picking on some goodies and I got a feeling that I'm pretty much set. I'm excited to have learned how you can indeed import / export material between the programs (I wasn't too sure about all that; figured that some contents might be locked due to copyright or whatever other policies), so things look promising indeed (even though I have no clue at this time what to do once I have a Genesis or Genesis 2 model loaded in Hex ;-)).
And that's basically it. I already managed to do some tweaking, made a cool nasty scene using a tropical environment and the helligator (awesome model!) and in the mean time already learned how one can "link" elements together (change parent), I've become pretty familiar with the content manager (after I wanted to move my library from C to D I ended up with a completely empty smart content panel, managed to solve this), I'm over my "panic" that some stuff I bought (like Helligator) didn't show up in the smart panel (funnily enough I'm starting to like the content manager a lot more than the smart panel; more than often I only use the latter as some "extra" content panel" whenever I need to add something extra to my scene) and I even got the bridge plugins (Bryce / Hexagon) working :)
And where I go from here? I dunno yet, so far I'm enjoying the ride.
Finally a forum related question..
My screenname. I didn't specifically register for the forum, but after I registered on the website, got myself some goodies (and the platinum membership) I basically ended up with this forum account. I have found an option to change the screenname in my profile, but that doesn't work. I noticed the line saying that changing usernames has been disabled, and so far conclude that "screenname = username", but is that correct?
Reason I'm asking; I'm normally using another common nick, and this one basically got copied from my e-mail address. It's not a big deal, just wondering.
And that's it.
Hmm, something occurred to me; I could now use my new goodies to build my own avatar for this place. That could be cool :-)

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Yeah, that's what I did, and some other users have too. It can be addictive... :)
If you want to change your username, you need to send a PM (Private Message) to either Richard Haseltine or adamr001 (two of the administrators). Be sure to mention what you'd like your name to be, and a few alternates just in case that one is taken.
Hi and welcome
As Scott says, Richard or Adam are the ones to contact to ask for a Username (Screen name) change, as it was assigned by default.
Thanks guys!
Just sent Adam a PM and we'll see what happens next ;-)
Also noticed that I sort off missed the official introduction thread, but that was also due to my forum related question. Alas; I'll try to make up for that ;)
