Low quality reflections

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi there,

I am trying to set up a scene in which there are a few reflections but i am finding the quality of the reflections is poor. The edges of everything appear jagged and the level of detail seems lower.

I have tinkered with the usual surface settings on the mirror and have substituted a flat plane set to reflect as well as trying different light set ups but the problem persists.

Any help or advice that can be offered will be most appreciated.

P.S. Using DAZ 4.6 on a quad core PC and high render settings.

When you say High render settings what do you mean, Level 4? If so that is not high enough and you need to go in the Advanced render settings and set the Shading Rate to between 0.50 and 0.20 should be a good starting point. You can go lower if needed. 1.00 is low quality and 0.20 is high quality which is called super sampling.

I think I am correct in saying (someone will hopefully correct me in I am wrong) 1.00 is taking one sample per pixel when rendering, 0.50 is taking two samples pre pixel, 0.20 would take 5 samples per pixel. So the lower we go with the Shading Rate the more samples are taken for each pixel, the more sharp the image is.

I had the jagged mirror reflection once, and lowering the shading rate from 1 to 0.1fixed it for me in that scene.

Wonderful advice. Thank you, that did just the trick :) I had spent ages searching around for an answer to that.
