Daz characters to maya clothing help. ncloth crashing!

Im trying to make a small animation in Maya.  I had the Genesis character in Iclone and then exported it as Alembic and opened it in Maya and everything is good to go (once I got al the textures sorted out).  I wanted to do a test and see if it was possible to add some clothing at this stage so I imported a pair of shorts and made them ncloth and then tried to just let them drape over her calves to see what would happen.  I selected her legs and made them colliders and hit play and Maya crashed.  I did this a few more times and same result so I set up two cylinders and tried to drape on that to see if it was the shorts causing the problem but it worked fine.

So is the daz character too detailed to use as a collider? Or is it something else?  If it is the character is there a way to do it or a workaround?   I thought maybe I could set up a bunch of primitives and parent them to the daz character but I can't find any tutorials on how to do that.  I tried parenting the cylinders to her legs but they wont move with the animation.

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction or tell me what the problem is.
