Morphing Genesis 3 character into Toon Generations 2?

I am transitioning from using Poser to starting to use Daz Studio. I bought Toon Generations 2 Mega Bundle for Genesis 3, as well as Growing up Bundle for Genesis 8. I cannot figure out how to morph the respective Genesis figures into the Toon Character?.

Could someone please help me with this? As I am a total newbie, please explain in simple terms!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Anne

Did you download & install the required Genesis 3 Starter Essentials?

    Yes I did!

I load the Genesis 3 figure into Daz Studio.  When I apply the Toon Generations figure onto the Genesis 3 figure, or respectivly the "Growing Up" Shape/morph onto the Genesis 8 figure, a dial shows up in the Shaping tab, but nothing happens when I move the dial.

Yes, that is because you have the Chest Upper bone selected - when posing it is important to have the correct bone selected but in shape you need to select the Genesis 3 Male listed in the Scene tab above the Chest Upper bone.

But that's unfortunately not always true though it is in times you want to change the shape of the entire character at once. So remember with Genesis 3 to reshape it is easiest to select the entire figure to shape. To pose, select the specific bone you want to pose.

Some older figures through, like old Poser and DAZ figures, require you to select the part of the body, eg head, that you want to change the shape of.

Even with the full figure selected, I am unable to make any changes towards the Toon Character :-(

Hmmm, well I did tell you something wrong earlier & that is you can morph the entire character with just a sub-bone selected because I just did that so sorry.

Anyway I don't know what is wrong with your DAZ as I see nothing wrong that you are doing.

Here is what happens when I do what you described what you are doing in my DAZ Studio:

Hmmm, DAZ Studio won't let me upload my example images of my Toon generations 2 test but I can tell you you seem to be missing part of your Toon Generations 2 product.

Missing icon you should have looks like attached images but it is the same Toon Generation boy but it says 'Toon Generations Adjust Age' with a blue background in addition to the icon you have there on your image that has a green background. You should verify you have downloaded and installed all the minimal needed product parts of Toon Generations 2.

No idea why this isn't working for you, but while you try to figure it out did you try adding the Toon Generations 2 character directly from the llibrary? Double-clicking the character should place the default ToonGen2 Male (or female) into your scene. If that works, you can try adjuting the age and amount of toon...

Please remember to switch the viewport preview style to Smooth Shaded if you are going to show nude figures, even without their Anatomical Eleemnts attached.

So far nothing has worked. I downloaded and installed the Toon characters and Growing up through DIM. I have to assume everything got downloaded and installed correctly. May be I made a mistake when I downloaded and installed Daz Studio, or could I have made a mistake pointing Daz Studio to the correct Runtime library? I wonder if it might help to completly delete Daz Studio and reinstall everything clean? I have also had issues not being able to Render. I don't know if it's me or Daz. Yikes! So far I really like Daz Studio and prefer many aspects of it to Poser - I don't want to give up on it.

If I wanted to completly uninstall Daz Studio, delete everything and start fresh, how should I proceed?

If it's a settings issue uninstalling and reisntalling DS won't fix it. It sounds as if you have customised your content directories - please psot screen shots of the Installation tab in the Install Manager prefrences (the gear icon at top-right) and of Edit>Preferences>Content tab>Content Directory Manager, with the entries expanded to show the folders in use.

You don't have the folder DIM is sending the fiels to set in Daz Studio, that's why it can't see the files. Download the script from this page http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start (there's a clickable link next to the title, at the top of the code section), start DS, and drag the script into the Viewport - that should add the folder to DS, and let you access the files.

Yehaa! It worked. Thanks so much!

Just an FYI; when I downloaded the script, my system added a .TXT at the end of the file name. When I first dragged it into the viewport, nothing happened. I deleted the .txt and tried again and this time it did work.

One more question: Now that I have the Toon Generations guy loaded, I want to play around with it. I am surprised that I can only find a very limited selection of  expressions. There must be more options than those ten I found under Parameters for the head?

Shouldn't I  be able to manipulate his head individually, like opening his mouth, laughing out loud,, moving his eye brows up or down,  turning his eyes etc. Just wondering. Am I missing something?

I could open his lower jaw, in combination with upping "Dashing Grin", it gives me a very unconvicing happy, laughing face.

There should be basic expression controls on the head or body, yes, affecting individual parts of the face but the compound expressions, affecting multiple parts to convey a particular emotion or state of mind, are mostly add-ons.

  • AnneWertheimAnneWertheim Posts: 135

As far as I can see, there isn't. I checked up and down through the Parameters tab and I am unable to find anything that would allow me to morph the head into an expression that I create. If you could point me towards where else I should look, I would much appreciate it.

Otherwise should I starte a new threat in the discussions?

You have checked the Parameters pane under Pose Controls>Head?

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,320

For the expressions that aren't specifically created by 3DU for TG2 you have to buy the Genesis 3 Female Expressions for female & Genesis 3 Male Expressions for male expressions and likewise in the DAZ 3D Store there are expression sets you can buy for the characters in addition.

You can pose the head yourself using Power Pose utility or by adjusting individual face rig bones in the face as well, even without buying those extra expression products but it is more work.

The extra packages just adds pre-built whole expressions.  The options to adjust the eyes, eyebrows, and mouth are part of the base figure.

Thanks for the info - much appreciated!!!!!

I'll check out the Genesis Expressions.

Would I be looking at these: Genesis 3 Female XprssnMagic, SKU:42069, Genesis 3 Male XprssnMagic, SKU:44377

or these: Genesis 3 Bundle Expressions & Face aniBlocks, SKU:32573 ?

If both would work, which one would give me more versatility?

I don't own those but they should do so. Make sure to read the entire listing so you know what any other required products are needed to own, if any, for those products to work correctly. Example, editing aniblocks, if desired, needs the animate2 product and you'll probably want to add the keymate & graph mate products if you buy those. However, you use all the expressions and poses in those aniblocks without buying those other products, just stop at the frame that has the pose & expression the way you want it in the aniblock when you play it back.

I only need them for stills, I don't do animation ( I don't even know what "aniblocks" are :-0 )

May be I'll stick to the XprssnMagic expressions, if the others are more geared towards animation.

    THanks for the help!
