Geometry Shell unparent

I can create a geometry shell around a figure. But I want to unparent the shell and delete the original figure. Unfortunately this also causes my shell to disappear (even after I unparent). Is there a way to achieve this or do I just need to keep the orig figure around and hide it?

You might be able to export it as an object, then reimport it. Then delete the original figure

the shell is actually the same as the figure just offset so you can convert the figure to a prop under edit rigging and use that.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Not really.  You can set the offset of the shell around the figure and it expands/contracts equally across the surface.  Creating a copy of the figure and converting it to a prop, or exporting an OBJ you get an object that scales from the origin, so you can't really get that relative-to-the-surface offset.

Please let me know if I'm wrong here; and if there is a way to get the prop-of-the-figure to offset relative to the figure's shape.
Ideally, I would also like to be able to convert the shell to an in independant object after setting the offset, but I'm having not luck with that.

  • Nevermind; I was able to accomplish what I needed by creating a copy of the figure and using a push modifier, sending that to Hexagon for merging/editing for the effects I wanted.  Now, someone needs to create a tool or script that will "Delete all non-visible surface polygons" or "delete all polygons within the perimeter of another closed object".  :D  I can't get boolean to do this exactly as needed.
