they keep biting their nails!

Hi guys! back again with another technical problem.
WHYYY do my girls' nails keep doing the following?
Okay yes I applied a V4 nail color just to see if it would work and these gre Genesis girls. But even when I go through the settings, load another Genesis character and copy over settings, check displacement, the works - they won't go back to normal and... I don't wanna build the scene from scratch over a nail. *sniffle*
Anybody got any ideas?
So far, displacement is at 0% where it was at like.. I dunno... not 100% but up there. Bump is norma. Hand textures are normal. I did manage to get some nails to get this black band on them when I copied over the Genesis default settings, but that's still a problem.

Carrier hope to have a couple of considerations to help...
If when you say "settings" and that does not mean parameters, then is there is a parameter that would allow you to bend the nail or finger tip is such a manner to prevent that visual anomaly?
Assuming your screenshot example is not a render, then if you were to spot render the hand would the render show a normal fingernail vs. an anomaly is design mode?
Thanks for the help!
This is a render - the nails look fine in the viewport.
I did think of bending the nails, but have no such animal. I lengthened them and the blank area remains in the same place When I copy over a genesis surface settings to these girls' hands, a black band appears over that blank spot.
But a regular Genesis figure renders just fine. -_-
You say you lengthened the nails. If this is a Genesis figure how did you do that? Victoria 4 has a NailLength morph, but Genesis doesn't - not that I can see anyway.
And you sure you haven't get any displacement on the fingers, not the nail but the fingers ie; Hand?
ok, I have another idea...
Lets assume that the fingernail is like putting some clothes on the morph. You double click it and it appears. If so it could be like the "pokethrough" scenario recently posted where the morph's flesh is showing through cloth but in your in case, the flesh is showing through the fingernail.
So maybe you can try this, "Apply Smoothing Modifier"
In the Scene Tab select the finger or hand where actor’s flesh is poking through the fingernail.
Within the context of the Scene Tab, In the upper right corner is popup menu button. Click it.
A menu appears. Goto Edit>>Geometry and the menu item Apply Smoothing Modifier
If you are using the SSS shader on the skin, make sure that displacement minimum and maximum are 0 if the displacement strength is 0.
Hi everyone: sorry I disappeared. A deadline reared its ugly head and now I'm playing the catch up game.
Cayman: I'm not sure. I have 182 morphs installed (from Sharecg - and I'm not sure of the name) so that may be it. I just go into actor and lengthen fingernails.
Szark: all displacements were set to 0. When that didn't work I try displacing the fingers. Nothing worked.
jax: that's a really good idea! I only just learned about smoothing mesh about 2 days ago and I think I'll give that a try when I open the render next. Hopefully it will be today. I wish I'd thought of it!
What I ended up doing for the image was simply doing postwork to replace the nails. Being as the final image was worked over to appear like a watercolor it didn't hurt things - it just lead me to some concern that it was happening.
Ah! That's one of the bug morphs of the Die Trying 182 morphs. The fingernail morph does that if you make them too long.
I keep meaning to make a corrected fingernail morph. I've used fingernail morphs and I crank the 182 one just a tad to get it started and then go into Hexagon and pull the nails out longer with it so as to keep them from moving downward.
If that's the case, then why does it happen only when I apply V4 fingernail colors? It happens even when I don't lengthen the nails at all. It's so weird.
Richard said above about what Shader you are using, what shader are you using btw? Or are they just Daz Default materials?
Do you mean a shader as in what you'd find under shaders or the figure colors that come with characters? In that case, I'm not sure what colors i was using. I did a search for fingernail in my content library and picked one that looked okay.
But I can tell you that it seems to be *any* v4 character I have that does it.
I'm completely willing to believe ghastly's statement - and I like their suggestion about using morphs. I'm only just starting to understand morphs a little. I've tried them one time but couldn't get the item to move how I wanted so on that I've got a bit of a learning curve yet.
When you click on a surface in the Surfaces Pane the name of the shader will show at the top of the pane.
But if there are no displacement maps for the nails or fingers then yes probably down to Morphs.
Ah okay, then it would be the shaders under the shaders area. :-)
Yeah, I fought with those a bit to no avail. So.. I dunno! I'm just gonna be careful with those nails from now on.
It might just be that the morph defect shows up more with nail polish applied.
Oh wow, I do see that!! I wonder why it does it. Wish I were good enough to fix it.
You know, I'm not sure why Genesis doesn't come with the ability to grow her nails in the first place. It seems like such a fundamental thing.
Genesis does have nail morphs, there's a Nails Length morph in http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-evolution-body-morphs/ and a FingernailsClaw morph, which can be used at a lower strength, in http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-creature-creator-bodies
