Announcing Carrara Challenge #40.  The main work-in-progress thread is here.

We have reached the voting stage!  Please help us by voting in this thread.

DAZ3D and Carrara Professional Artists sponsor a monthly art contest to:

  Build community spirit

  Share tips and tricks

Highlight the creative potential of Carrara 8.5 software

Carrara is a full-featured 3D software suite.  It has robust tools for 3D modeling, particle effects, landscape design, hair creation, texturing, animation, high-quality rendering, and more.

But one of Carrara's most unique features, is that it easily accepts most Daz and Poser content!  So, not only can you create your own content, you can also load and pose content from the world's largest 3D library.

Here are a few of the early WIP entries.  All can be clicked to see a larger image.

Stezza leads off strong with classic elements:

Selina puts some heat on the ball with her smoking cue:

Bunyip02 gives his noir an alien twist:

I created this for the Challenge header:

Diomede engages in noir shadow play:

DesertDude brings on the drama with Leggo noir!

Ooseven keeps us guessing - femme fatale or damsel in distress?

Vyusur shows us her considerable skill at mood and lighting:

Shlomi laszlo - looks like this guy is in for a nasty surprise:

Pretty good for a first week!

    wonderful examples UB!

just a few shots of one scene -  interesting when you are doing a narrative to break up angles

the sand in these is done in post

fill a layer with grey uses parameter overlay then add noise -

    erase bits as necessary

primoval smoke, gives weird effect when hitting transmaps?  ?? eg eyelashes and hair

lighting is in the main three spots all with cone effetct reversed

the cig smoke is from a plane with a smoke png  textured to it

    Thanks HW!

Here are renders from the 2nd week.

DesertDude models his buildings for Leggo Noir!

    Stezza with an insane Batmobile:

Varsel models an excellent camera, and experiments with the GMIC filters:

Evilproducer provides a striking noir-style pinup:

Mistara gives us a mostly B&W interpretation of her Genesis 3 Janette character:

Stezza with a wildly imaginative render:

My own version of a hard-boiled crime story:

Diomede offers a tough-guy portrait, hair and props modeled in Carrara:

Bunyip02 gives us his homage to Blade Runner:

Evilproducer again, with his noir-ish custom-built bridge scene:

3DAGE, cake noir!  All modeled in Carrara, of course.

My bridge noir scene in black and white.

The bridge was completely modeled and textured in Carrara.

    Thanks EP!

Here are renders from the third week.

Evilproducer dazzles us with a light gel show:

Stezza gives us his version of an aviator, also using the Carrara light get feature:

Vyusur breaks up the stag party with a David 5 pinup, all done in Carrara with no postwork:

Diomede with a scene of noir lament completely modeled in Carrara:

Diomede again, the postman gets taken advantage of by a sneaky female:

One of mine, rendered in Carrara with no postwork:

Ooseven uses the VWD plugin to drape fabric, and then pose:

Bunyip02 hits us between the eys with this complete misuse of the Carrara light gel. :)

    Gotta love those carrara renders

hya here's soemthing from me one with no post work, t'other with a little hand colouring

the image uses green b and w flter combined with Toon!Part111 and also uses Toon!Pro with line colour set to object colour

the testure at the top from light source is from a spot with a light speher with turbulence ticked - gives that grainy look

the bit of grunge on the hands and coat are from a light gel using one of my other noir renders as the gel

the reflection on the lenses is just a texture map of one of my other noir renders

the coloured one is from a material diffuse render pass pasted over the b and w and turned into a colour parameter in PS

then I added a little sloppy hand colouring

third is a combo of material diffuse and diffuse render passes
