The difference between Genesis 8 basic female and Genesis 8 female (for example)?

Well, like the topic says. Are those different things or the G8 female just comes loaded with more stuff? Also I know the gen 8 basic females appears under Smart content; but where Gen 8 female should appear? And if they are different models are the figures like (for example) Victoria 8 based on the G8 basic female or on G8 female?

Basic or Base? The Base is just the default load, without any extra shaping or maps applied (though it is the fuill figure and can use any shapes or materials installed).

So to have morphs and expressions Gen 8 female is needed, thanks.

I am watching/reading tutorials but most of the tutorials I've seen are just repeating the mouseovers, so they are more "tours" then tutorials.

I think it's more of a clarfification than anything. G8 "basic" female is the one you download and install with Studio. It is the mesh itself, the actual figure, so to speak. There are character morphs who use only G8female as a base, and characters who, outside of the G8F "basic" mesh need another one of the G8F "base" characters, like Victoria 8, or Alexandra 8. The reason is that they use the morphs of that "base" character, and make their own modifications from that.  If you use those on plain G8F "basic", the result will not look like the promo image.

That said, without G8F, Victoria 8 will not work, as she is not an independed character, but depends on the G8F mesh being available.

From what I see I should have got with Daz Studio install the package "Genesis 8 Starter Essentials" which I see have "Genesis 8 Female Figure" included. Is this the "basic" G8 female?

Yes.

Yes, the Starter Essentials figure (in People/Genesis 8 Female) is the base. But all add-on content will work on any Genesis 8 Female-derived character, although soemt hings (poses, for example) will need tweaking for different shapes.
