Yep, I was just thinking that reducing the razzle-a-dazzle sparkle could diminish the effect. Better to go matte than call attention to it. Perhaps she just had a bad makeup day, applying the lipstick when her hubby walked up behind her and tickled her. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love Second Circle's characters, they are a bit different and always well done.We see a lot of that slightly outside of the lips around here.  I guess it just depends on whats hot in your neck of the woods.

You made SC Olivia really shine in your renders @mollytabby  Its neat to see how very different you made her look in the two renders.

@mollytabby and @novica. Nice renders. And tips on the lips. I've recently experienced the extra (glow) around the lip area.

@mollytabby, it's not you. The material zone for the lips extends slightly beyond the lips into the surrounding skin. Most "shine" settings apply the shine without masking that bit of skin. Here is post I did with images to detail the issue in a thread on Megah in The Commons.

I knew I'd seen something about this. Thank you so much @L'Adair for explaining this. For now it looks as though I'll either have to leave the lips matte or simply edit out the problem in postwork. @IceDragonArt, @Worlds_Edge, @cismic, I do love SC Olivia and I have other Second-Circle characters wishlisted because I'm impressed with the quality of her and the variety of options. Her skin is beautifully done and changes with different lighting and tone.

Has anyone bought this product? FSL Ultra Layered Makeups for Genesis 3 and 8 Female I put it in and out of my basket several times yesterday thinking it may be an option to conquer the shiny overspill, but it really is pushing my budget for this month when I'm holding back to see what the next bundle release is. As L'Adair has pointed out that it's to do with the way the material zones are set up on Genesis 3/8 then I'm thinking this probably isn't the solution for me because I'd still have the same issue. @Novica, I'm still going to look at Oliva again to see if your tip makes some difference - toning the shine down might help a little.

Referring back to this post in Thread 10 for the Gift Card Discounts. If  you have that green 10% off banner, now that gift card goes to 32% off. And apparently any new release works for that third one and the PC+ one no longer has to be above $3. You've got about 25 minutes before the store turns over and some of those Gift Cards scrolling banners may be gone.

I decided to test some of the settings I tweak for lips, so Joanna (Gen3F/ Gen8F)  came to mind with those Angelina Jolie type lips.

    Georgina Pin-Up Hair (Gen8F)

TIPS FOR LIPS:  Play with the base bump, Metallicity, Glossy Color/Reflecitivity/Roughness, and change the colors that glisten from a white to a pale yellow, pale orange, or slightly lighter color than the base color of the lipstick.

Like these lips? Here you go. Only settings which I changed are provided. The lips have more moisture but aren't "gooey." You could kiss this gal!

The base bump was already 5, I increased it to 5.26. I was suprised the bump was that high.
    I added Metallicity at .0001
Chose a light color for lips then in Base Color went  with 228  171  171
Glossy Color- got rid of the light color and went with a mauve. Try 187  175  161  on your gals for this and see how you like it. Keeps it looking wet but not white-bright.
Glossy Reflectivity 0.71     Glossy Roughness .032
Added Metallics Flake-  the weight was .0011  KEEP THIS LOW or you really start looking fake, like a Tin Man type metallic. You just want to "glisten."
Leave the (metallic) roughness and size to the default, but with the Metallics Flakes Strength go with .38, and the density at .60. Keeps it from being overbearing.

I did not find a natural makeup for Joanna, this is the default eyeshadow/look and I don't like it. It appears she is wearing a light blue (and it's not the lights, as you can see from the eye whites, they are reddish lights.)  I did opt for the longer eyelash option. I would also prefer no blush, although it's subtle.  She comes with different blush options so you can increase it, but you are stuck with at least this much blush. It says one natural face so I am going back to see if I can find it. This is makeup 00 which to me should be the natural one, and I did NOT see anything with less color.

Oooo, thank you for the lips settings @Novica. This is definitely something I’m going to try later today.

The Product Library search bar has been broken for some time. It used to work really well. There is no excuse for when I type in Georgina Hair that the Georgina Pin-Up Hair wouldn't show up. No quotes around it, nada.  Have you noticed that the Product Library search box results have gotten worse?

Thanks for the lip settings. That’s something I haven’t played with.

@Novica, I don't have Joanna, but I do have nine other Mousso gals and every one of them have a makeup-free texture named "NAME Face Diffuse.jpg" The Makeup 00 preset on the several I checked does load the makeup free texture. After applying the Makeup 00 preset, check the face material zone and see if the image is "Joanna Face Diffuse.jpg" It is possible the preset is loading the wrong texture and if it is, you can browse to the folder and select the correct texture.

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,887

Thanks- Just checked, it is loading the Joanna Face Diffuse and that is what I showed you. It's light blue eyeshadow (or so it appears to me. It certainly isn't looking very neutral!)

That seems strange. Is there a Layers Reset preset? Izanami also uses LIE for blushes, and has such a preset, under Makeup. You can also open the face diffuse texture in photoshop or gimp and verify the blush and eyeshadow are on the texture… And if they are, put in a ticket with Tech Support!

I'm honestly not going to that much trouble. I stopped my subscription to Photoshop and don't use Gimp. I'll either just use her morphs and someone else's materials, or return her.

I've got a different mindset after seeing how long it takes to fix things,TWO YEARS FOR A SIMPLE FLOATING COUNTER?????   So now if there's an issue, I tell people here then return it unless I'm using part of it.

Where would there be a Layers Reset preset? I will check that.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,647

I too return items rather than wait to see if they are fixed. I usually only get responses if I ask the PA directly, which is something I was told to do the last ticket I had a problem with. I'd honestly rather not bug pa's about bugs- that is what QA is for... So now, I'm just returning.

It was at the top of the presets for Makeup in the Surfaces->Presets->Materials->Iray for the Izanami. .

My first render of Lara. She looks so cute with Pigtails and Specs. There are lots of colours available for the Specs.

If Makeup is supposed to be listed in Surfaces or in Surfaces>Presets, it's not there. I had Genesis 8 selected in Scene.  I tried different things in Editor. I don't want to waste any more time on it but thanks for telling everyone what to do / look for.

For awhile now, I just haven't said anything but I really think our mindset of submitting all these Bug Reports needs to change. For several reasons. First, the system is totally bogged down and not efficient. It's not timely. Because at times, it's not the PAs fault, it's user error. And so the tickets at Support vary from real problems to users making mistakes. And it piles up.

Second, there's no excuse for PAs to elect to fix OR NOT FIX a problem. If they don't fix it, the buyers have a right to know who is saying "Not going to fix it," and base their buying decisions on who followed through.  It's the PAs job to get it right. And we DO have a right- all of us- to know what problems are just ignored.

If a vendor has products that don't get fixed,  they should have returns. But what if a vendor is working on it?  Buyers don't know who is reporting what, and there's duplication of effort- and more tickets piling up. So perhaps a vendor isn't getting told in a timely manner either, and would have started on it sooner had they been told there was an issue.

There should be a separate forum section with perhaps one thread each for hair, characters, sets, poses, etc. Or it could be done by vendor. People would post the product with a link, the @ and vendor, and follow general guidelines (easy ones) as to how they applied the product and what went wrong in their opinion. Simply bitching / should have done this, this would have been better yada yada yada would just be removed. Then it's the PAs responsibility to check their emails. They don't even have to surf the threads, the @ tells them when there's a reported problem.

    *****************************

Let's look at what could be done for a section on pose products. This is just a quickie example of some of the guidelines (let's do the World Center issue):

    1. State the figure used,  pose number(s) (REQUIRED) that have the issue,  and if the figure was in default position or had a previous pose loaded. If another pose was loaded, you must state it specifically and include the link AND POSE NUMBER.

    2. Was the figure at World Center when the pose was applied?
2A. If yes, did the pose apply properly? If not, state what happened.

    3. If not at World Center, did the figure dart to World Center when the pose was applied?

    4. State specifically what the perceived problem is with the pose, and be specific with the parts of the body affected.

    5. Other comments.

(And of course this would be more complicated with other things such as characters, etc)

    Product Link    @ the vendor
    1. Genesis 3 Female    Pose 1,4, 9   default pose
    2. were not at WC
3/4. yes zipped to WC.  And it also went below the ground plane.
    5. There's no consistency. Some go to World Center and some don't. None of them should.  Pose 5, even using G3F, the hand floated above the thigh and did not rest on it as shown in the promos.

    ****************************************

So the benefit of having those type of threads?
    1. Other forum members (WHO WANT TO) can easily spot if it's simply user error and tell the person, or suggest a temporary workaround.
    2. Then Support's load is lessened by not having user-error reports, and those type of problems are immediately solved.
    3. Helps eliminate duplication of reporting the same error
    4. Transparency and seeing if products are being supported by the vendor
    5. May lead to quicker resolutions of the problem by the vendor as they get told sooner
    6. If vendors don't fix the problem and get returns in a timely manner (within 30 days) they may start testing their products better, which also helps the QA folks.

I think many PAs get caught in the quagmire of support tickets and are unfairly blamed for not being responsive, while some are taking advantage of the comfort zone of relaying through Support that "I'm not going to fix it." That shouldn't even be allowed if it really contradicts how the product is advertised, or a common sense aspect of the product.

This doesn't have to replace Bug Reports, it can be used in conjunction with it (for people who don't mind waiting years to get an issue solved, I might add.)  I'm in the screw-it-return-it mode, as I know many other people are. I think threads that consolidate discussing issues, with specific guidelines, would be of benefit to both PAs and buyers. (if moderated correctly.)

DAZ Studio should for these product related bugs have a system whereby you just choose the content in the scene, and if need by the morph(s) or surfaces(s) or geometry or so on that has a bug and then the user can go to the DS menu, select 'Report Bug with Content' so that brings now the ability for DAZ Studio to pre-fillout a form with your computer OS, computer HW, DAZ Studio version, and the buggy content that the user has selected and with that selected buggy content DAZ Studio can figure out who the content creator(s) and product name is (many times but it should be all the time for all DAZ 3D Store purchased) content. As a bonus DS can submit the dForce settings, renderer settings, and DAZ viewport/UI preference settings and similar settings that help identify problem the user might have that are user configuarble. Then the user types in a comment box the symptoms of the bug and the activity that causes the bug. Then that bug reported can be submitted directly to DAZ via a back office bug filing program and it can be automatically added to that current bug tracking system and a bug report number with link to the online bug portal emailed to the bug submitter.

Similarly bugs with DS Studio itself and not content bugs can be reported too.

A good bug report still takes effort most times.

@nonesuch00  That approach doesn't enlighten the other users though. Which still means duplication of bug reports, which bogs down Support's response time.(And users not knowing about the bug.)   Otherwise, cool idea!

    @sueya   Very cute Lara!

Put what is stopping DAZ 3D from having a chat/bug report window user interface directly in DAZ Studio and have DAZ Studio treat the bugs you filed yourself something that DAZ Studio checks on everytime DAZ Studio is started and reports to the user any changes in status of the bugs that user has file.

I downloaded Urban Future 5 from @stonemason and Now Crowd Billboards - Alien Pradators and used another three from Future Life. The lights are the emissive ones that are set up in Urban Future.

@fishtales   There's sure a lot in that scene! I really like the board going through the window, and the cracked glass looks neat with that lighting.

@Novica Thank you. The glass in the back building is cracked too but doesn't show up quite as much. I used this and moved it in front of the glass in the windows.

The 80% off on the discounts is not working.  I need the horse pro bundle in order to use the textues from DG that I bought last year.  I have everything in it except two items, and there is no way to upgrade (which is ridiculous to be honest).  I was briefly considering sucking it up and paying slightly over $10 apiece to go ahead and get it but you know what? I'm not going to.  If your discount isn't going to work, I'm not going to bother.  I'll keep using Harry the Hivewire horse (the last set of textures I bought for him were$4.95 for multiple coats).

Yes. After all these years, it's a bad marketing move not to make those textures a separate product. So many people have bought bits and pieces of the pro bundle to the extent buying the pro bundle isn't feasible, even at 80% off. And many of those people, like you, would jump at the chance to get just the textures.

On the flip side, I thing Harry is a much better looking model. The mane alone makes it a better buy. I've never seen a horse with a bald spot between the mane and the forelock like the Daz Horse has.
