Genesis Starter Essentials

I am using DIM,but was wondering if I could install it to a folder I made just for Genesis 1 stuff. I am soooo confused because it has other stuff that installs with it (e.g. Omnifreaker stuff, AniBlocks, etc...). Was just wondering if it was possible to break it up or if I just should install it the My Library Folder.

I like my stuff organized a certain way and when it isn't my OCD starts kicking in and I get very frustrated....lol. All I have been doing since last December when I got back into 3D is installing, organizing, uninstalling, rinse and repeat....sigh. I have read every thread about organization and cannot find anything on where to install GSE!! Thank you all for your patience and guidance *blushing smile*. I really want to render but if I can't find what I am looking for I just give up...lol.

I also do use the Categorizing in DS 4.6,but I am meticulous with my files as they have to be in the right order or in folders so that I can find it. Thank you all again.

Genesis Starter E needs to be in the TOP most DS content folder you use. I'm not a fan of breaking Content packages into different folders so the Top DS Content folder should have a Runtime in it as well. Like this My Library/Runtime

The Folder should be listed as both DS Format and Poser Format. I'm a bit odd when It comes to Content myself, but for DS4+ I use ONE folder for ALL content and then Category it all. That works very well for me. You need to keep the Database Backed up but all this is easy to learn.

If you already have it installed for DS, and if your DS content directory is already hooked up to Poser, then you don't need to reinstall the Core files - just install the Companion Files, to the same folder or to another Poser content library.

Sorry for the late reply. Just moved and still trying to get settled *smiles*! Thank you jaderail and RH for quick replies *hand shake*! I think I will just do as you all suggested for the Genesis stuff and do the Gen3 and Gen4 content how I have always done it...lol. Thank you all again for your patience and quick responses.

The Genesis Starter Essential folder does not need to be the first folder listed in the Content Directory Manager, in fact it probably should not be. Every time you save a scene, data is written to a "data" folder in the first folder listed. As this data is end user data it is best if it is not intermingled with content data. Everyone should create a personal file library outside of the content library and set that as the first listed folder in CDM, it will make backing up personal files easy too.

The first folder rule doesn't seem to apply to DS4 - as far as I, and others who have tried, can tell the files (if needed - stuff that's already in .duf format, with triAx figures, doesn't need anything new) are written to the data folder in the content directory you save to, assuming the save location is in a content directory (if not then the first folder is used, as before).

From my testing the first folder rule still holds true. The only change I suspect has been made is Studio is somehow flagging asset data that has already been written so as to save time when re-saving. If I have "My Crud" set as the first folder when I save a scene or scene sub-set any assets that needs to be written will be written to a data folder in "My Crud", Studio will even create a "data" folder if there isn't one already. I continue to add to the scene then decide I would like this project all by its self. I make a new "WIP" folder and move it to the top place. When I save this time only the assets needed for the additions I made are saved to the new folder.

And the location you are saving to is in a DAZ Studio content directory?
