Which hardware is responsible for iray preview to load fast?

When you click on the iray preview mode the scene turns grey and it takes a while until you can do anything. Is there a way to speed this up? Will the coming Nvidia 2080 be faster in that or is it a CPU or RAM thing?

When the scene turns grey, the system puts together all the elements of the scene. It takes the same amount of time, no matter if you have a card, or render CPU.
It could probably be faster if you have a fast CPU, and SSD; not sure about the RAM, though fast RAM never hurts.
Ok, I thought it has something to do with the RAM inside of the GPU and how fast it is and was hoping DDR6 in the 2080 would be an improvement.
From what I understand, this is the time it takes to load the scene elements into memory for rendering. So later generations will likely be faster, but I don't think there is a way to speed it up short of replacing hardware.
I don't know how long your waiting time is, but I don't think you'll be able to shave off a lot of that time. Your system is already very fast.
I don't know if you have already checked out the Benchmark thread, but it might give you a better idea where your system in on the scale of things. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/53771/iray-starter-scene-post-your-benchmarks#latest
So I got a bigger SSD now. I don't see a huge improvment in preview rendering faster but at least content loads faster which is great.
I think the newer graphics card will help more.
