New Content Installer

I don't know about anyone else, maybe it's just me, but I would really like to thank whatever idiot decided it would be a good idea to come up with a new install manager and, in doing so, make it so that you couldn't change the installation path (DAZ has it set up, completely grayed out so I do not have the option of selecting my own path (after I went through every check box that I could find in an attempt to reverse it)) and then, now I cannot get ANY new content into DAZ studio. Because of this installer, there is no longer the previous option of having DAZ itself install new content, so the only option that we have is to do it manually ourselves, BUT--but...when I would do this myself BEFORE the new installer came out, I had no problem getting any content to show up, but now files are missing and I can no longer do it manually, either.

I have sat here for three days trying to install the M4 base, to absolutely no avail. The installer refuses to install him into my 'My Library' folder where EVERYTHING else is installed into, and if I try to copy the files and put them over myself, I now get either a) An error message saying there are no such files, or b) It lets me do it, but when I go into DAZ and look for the figure, there is nothing there.

I have been told to look in my Poser directory under Figures > DAZ People and nothing but David, Pregnant V4 and Mill Baby are there. I then try to go to DAZ directory > People > Genesis and then to M4, but...he doesn't exist. I don't know what to do anymore. I got a new laptop, because my old one was going and I figured IT had something to do with things not working out, but after installing DAZ and everything else onto the new one, I am still running into the same problem. I have NEVER had this issue, or any others, with DAZ before. I've been using it for a little over two years, I have more than five hundred content downloads in it and everything that came out (on DAZ's site) before the new installer was introduced is working just fine, but I can't use anything new that I have PAID for and downloaded.

If anyone has any idea how to help, please tell me. And before writing "You might want to make sure it's even in the right path FIRST", I know what path it goes to. As I have said, I've used it for a little over two years, I've done this a lot. It has JUST stopped working, on three different computers, since the new installer has been introduced. . All that I want is to be able to use M4 and the M4 Morphs++ that I put $30+ into.

(I hate to sound rude and needy, but after spending three days trying to get ONE file to work properly, I've become really agitated and irritated. I just want to be able to use what I paid for and use it correctly without spending another ten days working on it. Please, please, if you have any input or have gone through the same problem and found a way to fix it, please tell me! Thank you, Stef.)

First of all, never spend days trying to work things out for yourself, just post here on the forums, especially the New Users forum, for answers.

I don’t know about anyone else, maybe it’s just me, but I would really like to thank whatever idiot decided it would be a good idea to come up with a new install manager and, in doing so, make it so that you couldn’t change the installation path (DAZ has it set up, completely grayed out so I do not have the option of selecting my own path (after I went through every check box that I could find in an attempt to reverse it)) and then, now I cannot get ANY new content into DAZ studio

If you really couldn't change the path, it would be idiotic. There is a help manual with the DIM, but, the easy way to change the path, is to click on the little 'gear' icon at the top right hand side of the interface. You can then set up as many install paths as you need. I have several, for G4 and G3 content, as well as Toons and Buildings etc..

I think that is the first thing you should sort out, and get the DIM to install the content where you want it installed to. It will install by default to the Public Documents area, to a new folder called 'My DAZ 3D Library', but you can point it to any folder you wish. The older default folder was My Library.

Anything that has been installed by DIM, can be uninstalled with ease, and it will sit in the Ready to Install tab untill you tell it otherwise.

When you click on the gear icon, the tab called Installation is the one you want. Come back and let us know how you got on.

This i what I am trying to say; it does not GIVE me the option of changing paths. It opens up the file, but if I try to change it to "My Library" from "My DAZ 3D Library" it just keeps going, and going. It does not give me the option of changing it. For example, every other time I have wanted to change it to my library, it says "Open" so it chooses that file, but there is no option other than "close out" and it ends up keeping the original file. I have TRIED to redirect it to the folder that I want, and it will not do it. I have already read the help manual and it still is not doing what I have tried. It just keeps it directed on 'My DAZ 3D Library' and will not change. I have already attempted to open up different paths, but it will not open the new ones, and reverts back to the one mentioned above.

I really don;t know what you mean here? You say 'it opens up the file' - what file, do you mean the Installation tab in the DIM?

I have no idea what you mean here either " I have wanted to change it to my library, it says “Open” so it chooses that file, but there is no option other than “close out"

At the very bottom of that Installation tab in the Gear icon interface, there is a large Plus Sign at the bottom, you use that to add a new path, I have about six of them. Once you have created your new path(s), then go to the Ready to Install tab on the main interface. Where it says 'Recommended DAZ Studio/Poser Content Folder', that is a drop-down menu. Click on it, and then select the path that you want to install into, that you just created.

It' working correctly on the old computer, but I can't seem to get it to work on the new one. But thank you, very much, for the help. It's still not perfect, but hopefully it'll get a little farther along than it was.

And again, I'm sorry if I was or am snippy, it was just really frustrating to pay that much (when you don't have a lot of money to begin with) on something and then not having it work properly.

Don't worry about that, we all have those moments

See how things go, and if you are still having problems, please post again, there are plenty of people here to help. Content has always had it's problems with both Poser and DS, but things are a lot better now when it is setup correctly. The DIM is a wonderful too, and I am really glad to use it, I can look at what is installed, and even get a list of the files that have been installed, and to where, by selecting the item in the Installed tab, and right clicking. There are a lot of options in there.

Let us know how you get on.
