Zbrush crashes on Daz import

edited December 1969 in New Users

I have a problem. Every time I export from Daz to Zbrush 4R5 with Goz plugin, Zbrush crashes and brings me back to desktop. What should I do? I am using Daz 4.6 Pro.

With DS and ZBrush closed, go to C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\ . Remove any OBJ files in the GoZBrush folder, and the GoZObject*.txt files. In the GoZProject folder, remove the contents of any folders except for any log files (I have a Photoshop install log in my GoZProject \default folder, not sure if that's needed or not). Try restarting ZBrush, go to Preferences>GoZ and make sure there's an entry for DAZ Studio and that the path is right. Try using GoZ from DS to ZBrush again

I couldn't find GoZProject folder. There is no trace of it. I installed Goz with Daz installer. There is only the folder Goz Apps. Also, in Zbrush, there is no Goz Daz path selection.

OK, in ZBrush under preferences>GoZ there are a couple of other commands that may help - Clear Cache Files (though if you haev go GoZProjects folder it may not be getting far enough for that to matter), Update All paths, and if that doesn't help Force Reinstall.

If I manually create that folder from Windows explorer would it work? What should that folder contain? I had a similar problem with Photoshop bridge. After bridge oppened, Photoshop said that it couldn't open a certain file. I have found where Daz installed the pluginD/Daz3D or so and I copied a couple of folders right in the Daz installation folder(D/Programs/Daz3d.) After that it worked.

No...it doesn't works. Tried everything. Daz just does not appear in Goz menu under preferences. What to try next?

I uninstalled Goz and reinstalled it, not trough download manager, I downloaded the exe installer. Same issue.

These people have almost the same problem as me, but in Poser. The Daz button does not exist under prefferences-goz http://forum.runtimedna.com/showthread.php?79519-I-cannot-use-GOz.

If ZBrush is crashing when you send your figure via GoZ, it's likely that there is no Daz Studio GoZ on the ZBrush side, or corrupted/improperly... I literally just had this problem tonight, even though it worked fine yesterday. Well, actually the problem was I could send to ZBrush, but could not send back to Daz Studio, so I uninstalled the GoZ plugin, then reinstalled it. Problem was, it re-installed in Daz Studio, but not ZBrush.

Anyway, you don't care about that, you want to know how I fixed it. I uninstalled GoZ through DIM (which is how I had it installed the first time), then checked to make sure it was manually installed as well by going to Windows' Programs and Features and uninstalling it there. I check both Daz and ZBrush to make sure the plugin was gone. In DAZ, I had to go to Help/About Installed Plugins and uncheck mark the GoZ plugin. In ZBrush, I went to Preferences/GoZ and made sure DAZ Studio was not listed there. All good, now no plugin anywhere. Then, I went to my C:/ drive (or whatever your main drive is designated), and went to Users/Public/Pixologic. In that folder, you will find a folder called GoZApps. Make sure there are no Daz Studio folders in there, delete them if they are.

Basically, this completely got rid of any GoZ installation for Daz Studio on my machine. It did not hurt my other GoZ applications.

Now, I installed GoZ manually, not through DIM. It might have worked through DIM, but since I went the manual route first and it worked, I stopped there. When you go back into DAZ Studio, make sure you once again go to Help/About Installed Plugins and put a checkmark in the GoZ box.

This worked for me, even though it was a long way around. I found out that I had 2 folders in Users/Public for DAZ Studio, and I think it botched things up.

I hope I explained it well enough and didn't leave out any steps, since I am writing this after the fact.

Edit: I just want to add that I know you already did installing and reinstalling, etc. Just try the above, get a fresh start. Sometimes it just happens. Make sure to do the uncheck plugin in DAZ Studio thing after uninstalling. I think that was the important part, otherwise it may just reinstall the same bad way.

I think that my OS (XP SP2) has viruses because of some weird behaviours.(it freezes when I browse folders etc) . If I back up an older save of my partition and run the GoZ installer directly (not trough DIM) do you think that it will work?

Another weird thing that happened was the fact that DIM wasn't able to uninstall GoZ. It blocked at 100% and DIM froze. I turned it off with task manager, deleted the files manually and installed it with the installer. The second time, the Pixologic folder was put in other location. Instead of D/Users/All users/Pixologic , D/Pixologic . So, after the backup which installer should I try first?. Dim or Goz separate installer? Updating my system to SP3 before install would help?

The solution is simple and worked for me. You need to add the path of the ZBrush at DIM -> Settings -> Applications
