Smoothing out Edges

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi, I am VERY new to all of this. I have only been using this software for two weeks. I have rendered a very simple picture of a woman, but the edges around the figure are not smooth at all. I don't own Photoshop, don't even know how to use it even if I did have it, but I wanted to know if there was something in Daz 4.6 to smooth out the edges and not have it appear so pixelated (if that is a word). Any advise?

If you are using a non-genesis figure you can apply a smoothing modifier as described here to smooth out joint movements and smaller mesh issues.

    Hope this helps!

Try attaching a render to the thread, that can help see what it is you are describing.

When I first started using the uberenvironment (didn't even know I was using it or what it was) I was getting terrible pixelation. I didn't know UE had "quality settings" that by default are set to low. Maybe that is what you are seeing?

I hope the picture shows up, but here is a sample I rendered. As you can see edges are pixelated, which I want to remove.

What are your render settings? It looks like you're using one of the OpenGL render settings (1, 2 or 3 on the slider in the render setting panel) Those are really only good for doing test renders to check your lighting and such.

Here are 2 that I did trying to duplicate your issue. The first is on the fastest render (quality 1) setting - it's still not as jagged around the edges as yours but you can see some jaggies.

The second is done with the default settings on quality 4 and it's much smoother.

These were done with no real lighting and no camera so they can be much improved.

    Thanks Novica 8)

Another trick you can try is to lower the Shade Rate in the Render settings window, the default is set a little high to allow for quicker renders but if you lower it to between .2 and .5 edges smooth, textures are crisper and it gives a nice overall render.
