Completely new to DAZ... Have no idea how to start it

Hi all,

I decided to learn DAZ over the summer, now that I have time. However, I have no clue how to even start up this program. I downloaded the DAZ Install Manager, but that didn't help much. I also went on the "my account" page on the DAZ website and manually downloaded DAZ 4.5, but after installing it I can't find it in my directory.

Based on my first impression of DAZ, I must say it's not very noob-friendly.
And no, I haven't looked at any how-to guides.

Anyone care to share words of wisdom with me? :D

Thanks for the link, but I'm trying to find out how to install (yes it sounds stupid) the program. Like, after I downloaded the programs on the DAZ Install Manager, how do I run those programs?

I don't use the download manager as it never worked properly for me. I just downloaded Daz Studio on its own and installed it from the .exe file. Same for products. See if that works. You'll have to download it again I think...but it IS worth it. A very nice package once you get used to it.

The Daz Install Manager (or DIM for short) does not install Daz Studio. That is a separate installer which you'll find by clicking the 'My Account' button above and looking for 'Product Library'. Daz Studio will appear in a list on the left hand side. Select it to find links to the installers on the right. You'll also need your serial code which you can find by clicking 'My Serial Numbers' also under the My account section.

The DIM is responsible for content only. This includes models, materials, shaders and figures for using in Daz Studio. It will need configuring for your content folder, but once done it will do all the hard work for you in future. The DIM will not install plugins for Daz Studio however, and these will often need to be installed to your Daz Studio program folder.

DAZ Studio is now available for download in DIM

Thanks for all the advice guys :D

I downloaded DAZ 4.6 now and it's running successfully. Now, how do I download the content (the other stuff in the bundle), trying to avoid using DIM, and "install" (I'm not sure that's the correct phrase) it onto DAZ?

You go to your account and then your product library and download the content. Download the DS version of the files and install them like any normal install.

That should be it. You can find the content in the Content Library Tab in Daz Studio.

Have a look at an intro to daz studio tutorial either at the Daz site ir on YouTube, this will save you a lot of time.

I tried installing them, but "The installation path for DAZ Studio could not be found. 'FBX Exporter' cannot be installed. Setup will now quit."
Really wish DAZ would make the installation process less complicated :/

It can be VERY frustrating yes. I just checked my product library and its all changed. Now looks like you HAVE to use the Download Manager. Now that Daz is installed try it again and see what happens. You'll have to tell it where your Library is.

    Mine is in

    C:\Users\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

    hopefully that'll do the trick.

I can't install "Photoshop 3D Bridge for DAZ 4.5+" and every time I try, it gives me a "cannot find a required path" message. Any ideas for this? And is that program necessary?

Click on the cog wheel in the upper right of DIM and click on the applications tab and post a screen shot of it

    I have Adobe Photoshop elements.

Being that DAZ is already complicated enough, I'm going to hold off on downloading it.
Thanks for all your help guys!

Did you know you can now rent Photoshop by the month. Costs about 17 euro per month.

I suspect that's the monthly fee under the annual plan - there is a per month with no obligation option, but I think it's more expensive than that.

For the UK it's £17.58 per month on the annual plan, £27.34 per month month-by-month (including VAT). Since the GBP is worth a bit more than the EUR I still think you are looking at the monthly fee for the annual plan.

That is the link to my beginner tutorials. It shows you where to go to download products, installing products, using the Universal Tool, etc. It is all text based, not narrated, and the mouse moves slowly so you can follow along. I don't deal with installation issues as there is a sticky devoted to that and it is extensive.
