Edge Interpolation
Sharp edges and corners
Soft corners and edges
sharp edges
For hair, what setting should you use? soft corners and edges? I just noticed for all that hair I've been doing, it's been on sharp edges and corners. Then second question- what do you use this for regarding clothing? Props?

It will matter only if the model has flat planes, such as strips of polygons in hair, the setting ciontrols how much those edges get smoothed. In the image all three items started as .5m planes with three divisions, the one on the left has smooth edges and corners and has lost the outer ring of polygons, the one in the middle had sharp edges and has gained rounded corners, and the one on the right had sharp edges and corners and iss till a square.
tSo I would think sharp edges and rounded corners? Trying to wrap my head around this so far as hair- the sharp edges would make the hair strands crisp along the long lines, and the ends soft? What I am encountering is that the hair strands are not "flowing" in some of the styles- they are stiff and bending, therefore making V's. I'll attach one from the product reviews in my art studio- enlarge, then click again- and look at the top of the hair for Cassini, on the right. Smoothing was not on- and so if I turn it on, I want to know which one to choose.
Since the hair is clearly made up of strips of polygons you certainly want one of the sharp edge options - otherwise you will lose some or all of each strip, which would drastically thin the hair. I would tend to go with sharp corners, but you could try just sharp edges and see if that causes any distortion at the end of each strip (often there's a fair bit of mesh not used at the end of the strips, so you may find both options give similar results).
When I use smoothing (in the past) I've always had both as sharps. So I'll just leave it that way. Thanks Richard!
OH HEAVENS- if you haven't seen the V5 Ponytail Hair for Genesis that I did with the settings off of Sharp/Sharp- you might end up with a skullcap instead of hair!!! Changed the settings and retested with smooth/ smooth for Edge Interpolation and the render was coming in fine.
So now you know! (And thanks to the folks who posted over there in my art studio thread (see signature) saying they didn't have a problem with the hair. That reminded me of this thread and the change I had made to experiment. And that's what it's all about, trying new things.)
Shown- with the settings on sharp/sharp- you get the skullcap. Then the settings to smooth/smooth, the render coming in showing the hair was fine.
My results were opposite of yours on the ponytail SubDivision settings. (These are not smoothing modifier settings, they are SubDivision settings.)
So yours worked with the soft and not the sharp? If so, did you have both settings on soft in interpolation?
EDIT: Changed the word smooth to soft. I think one word and type another. ARGH!
You originally said "Shown- with the settings on sharp/sharp- you get the skullcap. Then the settings to smooth/smooth, the render coming in showing the hair was fine."
For me, subD settings of sharp/sharp render the hair correctly. The other settings do not. I'm talking about subD settings. Are you, too?
Hi, sorry it took me so long to answer. Yes- we're on the same page. *smile*
EDIT: I've posted this elsewhere, but since this is what we're referring to- this is with the correct settings (sharp.) Genesis 2 wearing Genesis Ponytail Hair.
