How to move a figure to another part of my scene when using a preset

Hi all,

Fingers crossed I can explain this OK......I have an animation for a figure that I brought that comes as a preset. I load the figure and apply the preset and away they go, but, if I load a second figure and apply the preset they animate in the exact same spot as the first, even if I move the figure before I apply the preset or after. Is there some way I can set things up so that I can have multiple figures in a scene using the same preset but in different locations ?

Thanks

    Are you using aniMate?

If yes click on the M over the viewport and a circle should appear below your character. You can then drag the cricle somewhere and apply your aniMate preset.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply. On the one had, it did not work - perhaps becasue im using a preset (under poses) and not an animblock, but on the other, i learnt something I did

not know about the circle thing, so thanks :-)

The other approach you can take is to parent the figure to an “empty”, apply the animation to the figure but then move it by moving the empty. Or substitute “group” for “empty.” This works because an object’s xyz is relative to its parent.

Your approach works for many animations, but if the animation has the figure’s xyz position keyframed, sometimes parenting it is the only way to get around this. (At least AFAIK)
