Not Able to Get My Lights to Render or Cast Shadows

I'm a very very new user of Daz3d and a total newbie to 3d rendering. So I'm totally green here. I downloaded Daz3d a couple of weeks ago and have been doing some rendering of the provided figures with a few different scents and props. I've just started to try and use the lights option but they just don't seem to work. I'm able to put lights in the scene and it even looks as if the light is shining right on the figure, when I render, it's as if the only light on is the default light, which always casts the same shadow. I know that I'm hitting my figure with the light because I can see the illumination on the figure.

Being a total newb at this stuff I don't even know what rendering engine I'm using. But I have noticed that in the the Shadow option is greyed out in the 'Light' side menu when i'm in the 'Lights and Cameras' tab. Not that I want shadows only, I need to get my lighting working, because without lighting, your scenes are going to suffer.

I understood that as soon as you inserted a light into your scene, the default light automatically shuts off, but it seems to stay on for renders at least. Anyways, I'm getting pretty decent at navigating the different sections. I've tried increasing the 'Luminous Flux' and 'Intensity' of the lighting, but it didn't work. I've tried the control-L function to turn the light on and off, test rendered and no difference. Other than that, I have no idea. I'd really appreciate some help on this important issue. It's like trying to make a hollywood movie without proper lighting, impossible.

Thanks in advance
