Just some feedback, I couldn't get gen shader to work on the g8 anatomy. The software is broken, as far as I'm concerned. Everything was insalled very recently.
Also, the instructions are baffling, please give instructions without enigmatic jargon.
sorry for the months long delay in answering - i lost ebots for this thread and forgot. LOL.
It doesn't seem to matter what base I use - clicking on ANY of the character settings, whether maps or no maps, I get the same error message. It wants to know if I want to save my scene before closing it - why on earth does it ask that? It's not a scene file, is it?? I've not been able to use this product since I got it.
I'm playing with this for the first time tonight, and I'm really confused - I think something is going wrong, or I'm doing something wrong.
I have my G8F selected in the Scene tab, and I have her skin selected in the shaders tab. I dbl click "Altern8 - Alexandra 8 - No Maps.duf" (I'm not using Alexandra 8, I'm using Zelara....), and I get a message asking if I want to save my scene before closing it, and then I get a message saying "could not apply as the file could not be found"...yet I'm looking at the duf file!
I use Content Library, not Connect/Smart Content. What on earth am I doing wrong??
If you use the base G8F instead of the Zelara character, do you still get an error? I don't have Zelara, but I've just tested on several G8F alien/fantasy characters, and I'm not getting an error using "Alexandra 8 - No Maps".
Instead of selecting the Skin of G8F in the Surfaces tab, try selecting G8F in Surfaces. I'm accessing Altern8 from Content Library/Shader Presets (not sure if there are multiple ways to use it). Sorry I can't be of more help.
Try doing "Select G8F in Surfaces" after step 2, before Dbl clicking one of the shaders. Does that help? If not, I'm unfortunately out of suggestions. Hopefully divamakeup can pop in to shed light on it.

How do you install your content, and do you use Smart Content? Whenever I get those errors, it’s because there’s a mismatch between DIM-installed content and Smart Content, so what I have to do is uninstall via Smart Content, then update metadata. You may also try uninstalling and reinstalling via DIM.

ok attaching a screenshot here to show what is happening.
Steps:
Load Olympia 8
Select Olympia 8 in scene tab (not surfaces)
Dbl click on "Altern8 - Olympia 8 A maps"
Screenshot shows the message that pops up.
It doesn't matter if I choose "maps" or "no maps" - I get this every time. If I select "no" then I get the message in the second screenshot.
What is going on? Am I doing this incorrectly?
Hi, @jakiblue - Sorry I didn't see the update on this thread (you can always PM me directly in the future, as I'm more likely to see that). As for the error message - it's very strange. I've not heard anyone else having that issue. I also use the product pretty much every day and have for the past couple years, but I've not gotten that error message with it before.
The last two posts in that thread suggests a fix for it is: "after uninstalling from dim and daz connect and reinstalling, everything works correctly". You might try that.
If that doesn't fix the issue I'd recommend putting in a support ticket.
Until then you might try selecting the preset and dragging it onto the scene - if Daz is reading it as a scene file, that would "merge" the preset onto the scene and should work as a temp fix until it's sorted out (hopefully the above recommend solution will work for you).

Sorry for the late response - I didn't see the thread updates.
Which gen shader could you not get to work right? The gens shaders are actual shaders - meaning you need to select the anatomy geograft in the scene tab as well as in the surfaces tab before applying the shader.
As for the instructions, if anything isn't clear or if you need anything explained please let me know. I'd be happy to help any way I can. :)
If you have any issues in the future feel free to PM me, as I'm more likely to see that.

I got it working!!! From that other thread, you know what works? Renaming the files and taking out ALL the '-' and spaces in the filename.
So instead of "Altern8 - Aiko 8 A - No Maps.duf" I renamed it "Altern8Aiko8ANoMaps.duf" and it worked upon clicking.
Uh, that's close to 300 files that need to be renamed tho (you have to include the .png or they won't show). And I don't think a batch renamer will work as they are all called different things.....
edit: so it wasn't the spaces, it's the hyphen '-'. I was able to batch rename them all at the same time, just removing the hyphens '-' from everything, keeping the spaces. And it works.

Hmmm Weird - I would think if that was the case that everyone would have an issue with the product (and it's sold thousands of copies). Plus, do you have other products with a '-' in them that work ok? I think it must be a pathing issue. Maybe the act of just renaming them in and of itself fixed the pathing issue? Like if you add an extra "-" to the name of one of them, does it work after that or still not work?
Oddly, two of the people having that kind of issue in the thread were able to fit by uninstalling both via Daz Connect And DIM (I think regardless of if they installed via Daz Connect or not) and then reinstalling it. So that makes me think that perhaps there is a pathing issue maybe. Or perhaps multiple copies of the product installed in different locations and that was confusing the pathing. I don't know. I'm glad you were able to get it working. :)
I honestly don't know. I can't think of the top of my head if any other file names have a hyphen in them. Maybe it happens if the file name is long? Like, "Aiko-8" wouldn't be an issue, but "Altern8 - Aiko - 8 - Maps - Etc" is? No idea. LOL.
I'm not sure what "uninstall by connect" means, if I didn't install it via Connect. I only install via DIM and I only use the Content Library, not the Smart Content. I did look at Smart Content and try and find it there but it wasn't showing anyway.
I've never had this problem before in any product, so I can't even begin to think what the issue would have been. Regardless, I can use a batch renamer to delete all the hyphens easily so it won't take long.
Now, having said that and finally getting it to work, anyone got a good formula for Olympia 8? LOL

I have an annoying issues with genitals with this product. It's not consistent but sometimes when I use it the gens are noticeably a different shade than the rest of the body. Usually they are much darker. Any thoughts on what is causing this?
I almost always use a no-maps preset if that is important and the dedicated gens shader that matches the no-maps preset I'm using.

Hi, Riggswolfe, could you give me any specific examples so I could try and replicate the issue to see if I can figure out what might be causing it?
You can always PM me if you want (that way you can also send screencaps of what you're seeing - since you can't show nudity on the forum but it's probably fine via PM).
If you don't want to PM me, you can probably troubleshoot it yourself. If some of the Gens mats don't come with the same type of mats that the "Official Daz" Genesis 8 figures come with then that might be the issue. Or if you have a PA character that comes with some maps for the body but those same mats aren't all present for the gens, then that can also cause the settings to not match up. If you look at the surfaces tab of the Torso and Compare it to the surfaces of the Gens, make sure that there are maps in all the same places on both the Torso and Gens.
I've been using your product for a few months now and love how it works. Recently, however, no matter what shader I try to apply, it simply doesn't work. In my latest attempt, I loaded a Gen 8 base model and applied the Monique no maps option. Her skin is still vampire white. You can see from the screenshot what I have selected and the highlighted item in my content library is what I double-clicked. I also tried loading a Uchenna character and adding the Monique and, I think, Olympia shaders. She turned bright red both times. Any idea what I did to make them stop working

No, doesn’t matter if I select the figure in surfaces or not, still happens.
I use DIM to download and install, and I don’t use smart content. I access my products through the content library only.
just before posting last night, I uninstalled the product via DIM and then downloaded and reinstalled via DIM.
Ive checked the installed files against the File List in the read me to ensure it’s not missing any. It’s not.
im at a loss.

It appears that it might be an issue with how Daz reads files sometimes - I found a post from back in 2016 where people where having that issue with other products: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/93766/would-you-like-to-save-current-scene-before-closing-it
The last two posts in that thread suggests a fix for it is: "after uninstalling from dim and daz connect and reinstalling, everything works correctly". You might try that.

I checked out the other post, thanks.
Dragging the preset over the figure in the preview scene, worked.
I had uninstalled and reinstalled via DIM (i don't use smart content at all) was what I did last night, but the problem persisted.
I have literally no idea why this is happening - it doesn't happen in any other product at all, just this one.
I'll send in ticket.
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!

@3Diva > Are there plans for a Genesis 9 version?
I would like to see that also!
yes please, make a G9 version too.
