Help with HDRI please

Hi, I’ve bought some hdri backgrounds for Daz Studio but when I click on them I can’t see them in my scene, is there some settings I need to adjust so I can see them?

thank you.

Assuming they are coming with Render Presets for Iray they will show if you have Draw Dome enabled and are using the nVidia Iray preview mode or are rendering.

I wonder if this could help?

I'm thinking of getting it just for this purpose, so anyone that has it, knows if it can show the HDRI without IRAY preview mode?

I have the IBL Master product. It projects the HDRI onto a dome so you can see it in the viewport (although a fuzzy version, but good enough to get an idea of what the background will be) When you do the Iray render it automatically hides the dome so it doesn't block the light (at least I think that's what it does!) I find it very useful. It also loads a mirror-ball prop so yoou can see what is "behind you". When you spin the whole thing it automatically sets the rotation in the Render Environment tab.

  • Thanks I think I am getting the gist of it, I selected Iray rather than texture shaded.

Am I right in thinking the lighting comes from the hdri background ?

Also sometimes when I move things around my character ends up looking small and out of proportion to the background too.

Naturally it’s just a learning curve for me to get up.

    thanks.

That's great news! Thanks Melanie :)

Yes, when you choose in the render options "Dome" or "Dome and scene" then the HDRI provides light. Don't forget that when there are no other lights in the scene, then the camera has a light on by default. You can rotate and scale your HDRI in the render settings/Editor/Environment

You might find it worth taking a look at the Commercial Thread here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/215066/released-ibl-master-image-based-lighting-control-for-both-renderers-a-new-ibl-for-3delight/p1

From the sets ive bought, usually the hdr files are embedded within a preset that you apply effortlessly with 1 click... are you not applying the presets, or are you just trying to load the hdr file to set as the lightsource?
