hdri reflects in mirror issue
hi everyone
im using a hdri image to help light my interior scene, my problem is by doing that the reflections from the mirror is also showing the enviroment light from the hdri. is there a way to fix this?

Not that I am aware of, if this is Iray Photoreal - reflections always show the light sources, as they would in real life.
yeah this is photoreal, is it bad idea/normal to use hdris indoor or should i just remove the mirrors
because i have ghost lights and light probes also but it doesnt light up the character like the hdri do
It's not necessarily a bad idea, as long as the results do what you want. If, in this case, they aren't then you will need to explore other options. Ghost Lights, being nearly invisible, don't affect reflections and so can make the scene look dull - mixing in some regular lights may help with that (Ghost Lights are really internded as fillers/supplements, not a comlete solution in themselves).
You will get much better results having an actual scene there to reflect. The light from the actual lights will bounce and illuminate better too.
I may be misunderstanding, but I think there is an actual modelled scene and then a (finite, scaled down) HDR is being used to light that.
The only way to fix this that I can think of is to put a solid object in the reflected area.
Might be. I admit I'm a little confused what's actually going on. If those circled bits are mirrors they definitely don't seem to be reflecting what I'd expect.
richard is right im using a hdri in that way, im a beginner so i dont really know what im doing. and you are right those circles are mirrors and what the mirror reflects is the problem
seems like im doing it wrong, whats the normal way to light a indoor scene like is it normal light without hdri or what type of light combinations is used to make a good render
You're using the free camera linked somewhere, right? That camera uses iray section planes to cut off parts of a scene not in view including what's behind the camera. You won't get reflections if you use that. Use a regular camera and make sure you have an object that will get reflected on your mirror.
yes exactly i got that advice from another thread on one of my other threads, thank you and everyone else on the thread for help, ill do that
No that won't work. Even though iray section planes cut out objects they won't cut out the hdri The only way to deal with this is removing the mirrors, give the mirrors a surface that dosen't reflect or use another form of lightning than the interior camera with a hdri.
A section plane can clip the lighting, it's a setting (off by default) in Parameters. If turned on then the clipped walls will appear in reflections, but the light will be blocked too so that may not be acceptable here.
ill try to light it another way, whats the standard way to light a scene, is it to create point lights or is it lights from smart content and if it is from smart content what type is suggested for a interior indoor scene?
You could apply the Emissive shader preset to the modelled lights for the main light and perhaps add a ghost light or two to fill in..
