Hi all, I have moved to 4.6 and now have the Install Manager. Iam really not all that happy about either. I have heard tons of complaints about it and me included, after getting my stuff downloaded some of my files are missing??? and cant use those items. I have read and done the reload Meta Data ya da ya da and it did help but still have missing files or can see the item but cant use it due to some assets needed are missing could not find the file??? Any ways I hope that Daz gets that 100% some time soon? as I dont understand why we must use it when you have to manually go and change, reboot, re download, and whatever to make it work. It should just work!! Anyways,,, Sorry! I have a good amount of stuff for Genesis that I got from wilmap at CG and I have tried to download them into 4.6 but I cant use any of it either due to missing files. Of course Iam not using the IM as we all know it will not install without meta data so I do it the old way,,manually. It really doesnt bother me as most of my stuff I cant use with the IM anyways ( another reason why I dont like it) So unzipped into MY Library,,, Nope you can see it all in Daz and with color pictures BUT! I cant double click and use any of it cause of error saying files could not be found???
I have tried installing each folder where it goes (done this a thousand times) and still it shows up in Daz but cant use it. I tried to email wilmap but was returned as a old email address so I cant talk to her. This is what I sent:

Hi, my name is Leonard in Sunny California, I want to say first of all, that YOU! do the best job of making Clothes and stuff for Daz Studio!!!! Iam very picky at what I buy and or download for free and I only want to use items that look real!!! That brings me to my second point. You doing the work you do and giving it to everyone free, is Awesome!!! You are a Godsend to us all as your stuff Rocks!!! Sooooo now my broken heart complaint! (In a good way LOL!)

I have downloaded alot of your stuff and for some reason I cannot get any of it work?? I know where to unzip the files (In My Library) and it goes into Daz 4 and I can go to it and see it,,, BUT! after selecting Genesis figure and double click what I want to use I get a missing file error window?? It says that some of the assets were missing and that the file cannot be found??

So I also tried unzipping the zip file and put all files in manually BUT!! Yep, It downloads in Daz 4 just fine I can see it but cant use it as same assets and missing file error??? Anything I buy from Daz or somewhere else theres no issues at all its only with your stuff??? and its driving me crazy as I love your stuff more than most!!!!

I have a Windows 7 64 bit PC, and am using Daz Studio 4.6 Oh and before I forget!!!!! Iam NOT!! getting a Duplicate file error window as I saw the script fix but I think my issue is something else?? Can you PLEASE help me??? I would be so very grateful and Iam hoping its just something small and easy that Iam not doing right. Thanks, God Bless and hope to here from you!!! Leonard Bennett (Flight316)

Can some help me figure this out or,, is it that now with 4.6 and Install Manager we simply can not use any of the 3rd party stuff any more??? PLEASE some help Iam not complaining just really want to use what I have in the past!!! Thanks and God Bless!!!

If you are sure that you installed everything correctly, then I don´t know. But Wilmap frequents this forum, so you may just to wait a while for an answer from the maker of your troubleshooting content.

Anyway, if you don´t like Install Manager, you don´t have to use it to download content or to install content. You can download items purchased in DAZ store from your account from Product Library. They will be ZIP files, no installers anymore, and you just have to unzip them where they belong.

Ya,, Ive pretty much been doing the unzip locate download way of all my older content but now that Iam with 4.6 its just not that easy anymore. Iam sure I,ll get it figured out its just really frustrating ya know? Iam sure its a simple fix!!! Thanks

Are we sure whether everything in the store has been converted yet to be DIM-compatible? If something still has only the old installers, then DIM doesn't know it exists. Also, not all the metadata is actually correct; there are a few glitches that get corrected as people trip over them.

What is the exact path you installed to, and what is the name of the top-level folder inside the zip? Make sure the standard folders like Runtime and Data are directly underneath the listed content folder, e.g. "My Library", and that there isn't an additional folder named "Content" underneath "My Library".

I have replied to your e-mail, with very detailed information on how and where to install my clothing files.

If you can't use them, it usually means that they have been installed to the wrong place.

Thanks Wilmap for the fast reply!!! Ok, I got stuff to work. BUT! Iam getting that ID Duplicate error now! LOL! funny thing is after I click on the ok tab of the error window, everything works? Is this ok or should I try to use that Duplicate fix script??

What I had to do this,, I have installed 3 items that I got from you.

    Genesis Cross Over Dress
    Genesis Jewllery
    Genesis Underwear

The problem that I couldnt understand was when I would unzip lets say Genesis underwear zip file I would get a My Library folder.
I tried to put that folder into the My Library folder in Daz but instead of getting any asking me to merge that file Windows would just put the file into My Library file. So if I would open the My Library file there would be another My Library folder so Daz was showing the items but could not be used. So I then removed the file and started over by doing what you said by copy each of the 3 folders (data,People, and Runtime) but for some reason instead of asking me if wanted to merge the folder windows would just let it go into that folder but when you open it there would be another folder the same (data, people, and runtime.

So what I did was I took each folder data, people and runtime and I would open each folder down the line and then drag and drop that folder to where it needed to be like this:
For example: unzip the Genesis Lacy Underwear folder into a new unnamed folder, unzip it and get a My Library folder, then I would go to my Daz Studio/ My Library folder in another window and set both windows side by side. Then I would open the underwear unzipped folder and there are the 3 folders- data, People, and Runtime. I would then open the underwear data folder, and see the Pusey Designs folder and would then drag and drop that file into the studio/my library/ data folder.
Next I opened the people folder People/Genesis/Clothing/Pusey Designs and drag drop folder into the People/Genesis/Clothing folder and so on as Iam sure you get the point. After tring this method even though its a little time consuming I now can see all of it in Daz and use it but as I said before Iam getting Duplicate ID error window now. So thats where I am at this point. Iam not so sure that that script fix though as to me it looks like I could screw something up as Iam not all that savy to the files inside Daz and scared that I will not do it right and really screw myself bad! LOL!! Any advice would be grateful!!! Thanks for all the replies

You have encountered a common mistake many vendors still make, the inclusion of a "Content" or "My Library" folder. These folders have never been needed by Studio, they are not like Poser's "Runtime" folder. DAZ has only added to the confusion by having a "Content" folder inside their new DIM zips but is not installed by DIM, it is only to keep instruction files and content files separate (probably simplifies coding DIM).

There's the problem. At each stage of your fix attempts, you were moving the files one level deeper than you should have, exactly the same way every time. Instead of dragging the first My Library folder onto the second My Library folder, you should have dragged the contents of the first folder onto the second folder. Don't feel too bad about it, it's the obvious thing to do, it just happens not to be the right thing to do. ;)

SpottedKitty, Please forgive me but can you explain that to me in a 10 year olds minset?? LOL!! I need to learn this stuff and will but I dont understand I think?? Do you mean that after unzipping the file and it shows a My Library folder, that i should open it and then copy all 3 folders (data, people, runtime) and paste them into my studio/My Library folder???? Thanks for the help guys I hate learning with no guide to show me!!!

Drag it into the Studio folder... that way it merges with the My Library folder that's already in there :)

Yes, that's it. Glad I could help. Don't get too discouraged if things don't make sense right away, 3D stuff is very complicated if you've never done anything like it before. There are lots of people here to help, though, and we don't bite.

Ya thanks alot I mean it!! I do get alittle to upset at it sometimes and need to vent or cool off!! LOL!!! I did try what you guys said and its funny, some of it would install like that and work but some of it would just make another studio folder inside the My Lybrary folder and I would have to delete it and then just manually install. I was not so sure that I would do it right but once I really saw how the file path is it became pretty easy just very time consuming!

My biggest problem was in the runtime textures folder. As I have many clothes bty the same person and even though he or she would change the tile (sometimes by leaving out a letter of a word) lets says dresse, when I would go down the file path from the runtime folder and get to thr textures folder, they would have the same name. On some of them Windows would ask if I wanted to merge the folder and I would say yes BUT!! going into Daz and seeing if it would work sometimes it would not. So what I had to do was go down the file trail from runtime, textures and then instead of merging the folder I would open the texture file that I was wanting to install and copy all the textures and then paste into the runtime, texture folder and Bingo!!! it works!!!

I thank everyone who helped as I need alot of guidance right now but hey thats how we learn right??? Thanks Leonard

I don't see what the problem is with the Textures folder. All you have to do is copy the contents of the texture/Pusey Designs folder in the zip file to textures/Pusey Designs and the folders will be added to it. Some will need to be merged but others will be new. It is easier to keep track of which textures belong to which item that way.

Thats what I thought and yes some of them did just that. But! for some reason some that would make its folder within or merge would show in Daz but would not put the selected texture onto the item? So what I had to do on some of the textures was to just copy all the texture patterns and paste them into the textures folder. I can keep track of the pattern because I can just go back thru a item of clothings folder and see what they are and even more, with over maybe 100 different textures all mixed together at the bottom its name of what they are are mostly there No Worries! as long as its works and I know how to find them, Iam good!!! Thanks for your work and your help!!

Well, I tried the copy & merge thing with all of my files and it just doesn't work. I still get the pictures showing up but when I click on them it says there was an error, please check the log, yet there is no error info in the log. As for my older stuff, Daz can't find it at all. Now this is a serious problem when you have to pay $500 for an indie license for Daz content and $500 for an indie license for RawArt content. I am a game developer and WAS planning on using Daz models in a game but will stop purchasing content and will not pay the $1,000 for the licenses until this issue is fixed and better streamlined. It seems that the answer is that it should work if the pathing is set up correctly but the simple fact is that it is not working. There are missing files, errors, and missing content, yet no answers. Free content is one thing but content that we pay for and have lost makes for not so happy campers.

My free content is working for the majority of people. Most people who say they cannot get it to work have NOT installed it into the correct folders!

I have said this so many times.

Unzip the file to a blank folder.

Copy the three folders, "data, People and runtime" into the "My Library" folder. Windows7 will ask if you want to merge - say Yes and the folders will be copied into the correct folders.

It is so easy that I do not understand why you can't get it right.

I'm not quite following your explanation — it sounds like you're pulling the texture files out of their subfolders and leaving them all bundled together in the plain Textures folder. If so, this isn't helping in loading items, it's breaking them. Is this what you're doing?

Wilmap, if some of us are getting you mad or frustrated, were sorry. Some people have NEVER had to figure out how to drop files into file folders that they have no idea what or where they go. I remember when I first started it scared the hell out of me doing just that as I was not by any means a computer wiz understanding that stuff. If I bought a software program I for the most part never had to do any inside configuration with files and folders so for me and I speak for others as well, were sorry but were beginers! We are new to this stuff. Iam getting better at it but still am light years behind .. I DID! just what you asked me to!!!!! I unzipped your zip file into a blank folder! I DID! copy all 3 files (data, People, and runtime) into the My Library folder but guess what???? My Windows 7 PC did NOT!! ask me anything about merging anything!! Sooooo then opening My Library folder, and going thru (data, People, and runtime folders) your stuff was there!!! YES!!! OH, But Wait!!!! after starting Daz and going thru my content I saw all of your stuff nice crystal clear color pictures of textures Great!! OH, But Wait Again!!! after selecting a Genesis figure (Blank) and selecting it and then appling lets say low cut dress,, it would!!! WOW! this is great!! BUT WAIT!!!! then going to materials or textures and selecting the low cut dress and double clicking or drag and drop a texture onto the dress,,, NOTHING!!!! Error window saying file cant be found!!! or it will do nothing at all!!!. This is why I went ahead (nothing to loose at this point) and I followed your file chain for all 3 folders and I manually put your content into each corisponding file. And what do ya know!!!! It all works as it should!!!

As I said before, I thought that doing it your way and Iam sure that works for many, was the way to do it, but it did not work for me!!! Sorry!! But hey its all good!!!!

Also as a note: It seems to me that after upgrading to 4.6 with the new DIM, there are a lot more issues with stuff within Daz like never before?? 70-90% of all that DIM installed for me as well would NOT! work!!! After getting help I was told that DIM installs in a differnt way and in a different file path then where all my content is installed on Daz??? WHAT??? So sure enough I was walked thru and learnned I needed to change the DIM install path to My Library uninstall all that it had installed, re routed the path and BINGO!!! Now ALL my stuff works fine now!!!

Iam not trying to be pain in the behind here but please understand first off Iam a beginer here but Iam not that uneducated to not be able to follow directions and please understand when the maker of a product tells you this is how you do it, and you do it just like your told and it doesnt work, it gets very very frustrateing especially when that maker tells you your doing it wrong!!! Iam NOT!!! complainning just stating that not all Windows 7 PC,s in the world are identical in working the same!!! Iam sure that something within my OS is for what ever reason, giving me a problem with it. My cousin has the same OS as I and he downloaded all of what I have from you as well and it installed just like you said! Go figure????

In regards to my comment on here:

This may prove helpful for others. I found the answer to finding my lost content (V4, M4, and my RawArt Lizardians) thanks to Frank0314 Admin. They are listed under Poser Formats. You can see the thread here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24182/

for some reason some that would make its folder within or merge would show in Daz but would not put the selected texture onto the item?

I'm not quite following your explanation — it sounds like you're pulling the texture files out of their subfolders and leaving them all bundled together in the plain Textures folder. If so, this isn't helping in loading items, it's breaking them. Is this what you're doing?

Some of her texture subfolders folders are named different and they go right into the texture folder in thier own folder. No problem. Some of her texture folders are named the same as others and Windows 7 will ask if I want to merge and I would say yes. It will show up in Daz in color but when you select a texture to put on item it will either do nothing at all, or I get an error window saying file cannot be found.

So yes I had to pull some (not all) textures from thier subfolders and paste them into the textures folder and Windows will not ask to merge the same name folder but put the textures into the texture folder (without) a subfolder or them going into another texture folder that had the same name. It sounds crazy YES!! and I dont think its right myself, but it works 100%. I promise you!!! I did just what I was told as I was told and it did not work for me. Yesterday I I installed the same stuff on my cousins PC (same OS as mine) and it all installed just by coping all 3 folders and putting them in his My Library folder and it all works!!! I dont get it it makes no sence to me but it is what it is LOL!!!

My textures must be in the same folders that are in the zip file otherwise they wont work!!!

In runtime/textures there is a folder called Pusey Designs. Inside this folder are lots of different folders for each clothing item, plus some odd ones which may be used for several items.

The file that adds the textures to the clothing has a reference to each texture and it knows where to look for the texture image. If you put the textures in a different place then the file will not be able to find them and of course, will not work.
