Help with Genesis, DSON and installing content, please.
I doubt anyone would remember me from years ago, but I used to hang around the old site a lot. I took a longish break from creating and now I am confused. So much has changed!
I bought Victoria 5 Pro bundle, Michael 5 Pro bundle and DSON Importer for Poser. I have Poser 9.
1. In addition to Victoria and Michael Pro bundles, do I need to purchase a Genesis figure? If, where is it found, please?
2. DSON is apparently needed to use these in Poser. Is it easy to work or is there a tutorial for it?
3. Can I use the DAZ Download thing to install in Poser? I'm using the 'old' Runtime system. Do the downloaded files go somewhere on my computer or do i need to download again if i want to reinstall?
I am sure these questions have either been asnwered before or they are so sittly no-one ever needed to even ask, I thank you for your patience. :)
Comments
1. Genesis Starter Essentials is included with the DSON Importer
2. As long as you are using content that's set up with Poser Companion Files it's automatic, though you might want to make some adjustments (Scripts>DSON Support) and you will probably want to use the Transfer Active Morphs command. There is a manual for the importer.
3. Yes. It will tell you it wants a clean location, but that isn't vital (it just means you won't get update notifications for items you installed without using the install manager). Yes, the installers are kept by default - and as long as you copy the zip and the dsx file you can move them to an external drive or DVD/CD for archive and copy them back if needed.
Hi Wren long time no hear!!!
Welcome back hun!
On to answers for your questions now lol
1. The Genesis Figure comes with DAZ Studio 4.6 Pro which you can get for free here:
http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4/daz-studio-4-pro
You will need to install the Essentials PoserCF in addition to the base Essentials as these contain Genesis and the files you need to use her/him in Poser 9+
2. The DSON Importer for Poser is really easy to use BUT most products for Genesis will already have the Poser Companion Files (PCFs) with them. If not here's a quick mini-tutorial on how to use it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Make sure the DSON Importer is installed in your Poser Directory and that you have your Poser Runtime that you want the PCFs created in added into the Poser Libraries section of the Content Library!!
2. Open DAZ Studio and navigate to the product you want to convert in the Content Library (the folder with the files in it)
3. Right Click on the Content Library Tab's name or click the menu icon and you will see a "Create Poser Companion Files..." option. Select this to open the conversion options window.
4. The PCF Options Window:
Source: DAZ Studio Formats
Base Path - This is the location of the files you want to convert
Relative Path - This is the actual folder structure for the files to be converted
Selected *.duf file(s) in the current folder - (Auto-Selected) When you have mixed file types you will use this to single out the ones for each Poser Library location by selecting the actual files in the Content Library folder.
All *.duf files in the current folder - (Auto-Selected) This is the one used when all the file types are the same and nothing in the folder is selected
Include all *.duf files in all sub-folders - This one is for when you have Mat folders inside of Mat folder so you don't have to select each folder and convert them one folder at a time. An example is the massive character packs you can get from the store with hundreds of options for eyes, makeup, lipstick, nails etc. each in their own materials subfolder.
Destination: Poser Formats
Base Path - Dropdown box listing all of your Content Library Poser Directories. Select the one you want the Poser files to go into.
Use Metadata to Determine library distribution and the file extension(s) - This only works if you have accurate Metadata for the product you want to convert. I'm OCD and tend to not use this one at all as I prefer to know exactly where everything is going prior to hitting the button to convert.
Use this library and file extension - this is the one I use as it allows you to select your Runtime Library subfolder/file type like CR2, PP2, PZ2, MC6 etc. (Please note that if you want custom poser mats with SSS you HAVE to use the MC6 material option when converting!)
Supplemental Path - This is the main folder inside your Poser library folder i.e. "Characters/DSON Conversions" DSON Conversions is the default to make it easier to find your items but can be changed to whatever you would like.
Copy Relative Source Path(s) - This is a gem of an option and builds your actual folder pathing like it is in DAZ Studio inside the DSON Conversions folder. "DSON Conversions/People/Genesis/etc."
Trim for relative source Path(s) - This dropdown box tells the Converter where to start the pathing from (People/Props/etc.)
5. Now that you know what each window option is for and does all you need to do is select the options you want to use and hit the accept button. I have a screencap of the options I used to save the A5 Fantasy Gaming Poses I made below for reference.
6. You will need to have the DAZ Studio Library for what you convert plugged into Poser as it contains all the data folders (think Poser Geometries folder) that are required to use the DSON PCFs. The Textures folder is also in the DAZ Studio Library as well.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Download Install Manager is a fabulously fantastic program as far as I'm concerned! You can use it to install into DAZ Studio and Poser you just need to add in your Runtime and Library locations. There are options to select poser only content as well as versions of Studio. So you would need the Poser versions, DAZ Studio 4.5+ and the DSON Importer for Poser selected in the Download Filter Options. You can tell the Install Manager where to install the files to and if you want to keep them or have them deleted after installation is completed.
Hope this helps! You be sure to let me know if you have any more questions!!
