What is a "tube" in the context of 3D modeling?

I keep seeing 3D modeling products that are described as "tubes", objects that clearly are not just cylinders.

If I google search for "3D modeling what is a tube?" I get no relevenat answers. No 3D modeling glossaries have an entry for "tube".

tubes are just pictures that are used in Paintshop Pro.

They're made to be composited into other pictures.
