How do I send someone an object with textures I made?

Hello,

I made a prop in Blender and then gave it a texture in DAZ3D. Now I want to send it to someone but when he opens it says it dosen't find the texture or the obj.

Is there any guide to do this? I'm sorry but I tried google but I don't know what terms to google for.

Thanks : )

"export object from daz with textures" would be a good place to start as far as search terms

If you are exporting a object from Daz you can export the object, make a copy of the texture you used in Daz - keep the textures in the same folder as the folder you are exporting the object to so that when the obj exporter writes the .mtl file it will be able to find the textures you used.

there are TONS of YouTube videos about this method. The best place to start looking for help is to read the help files, learn to search google yourself and search YouTube. Good Luck and you might find this interesting as well if you are a Blender user with Daz:

I made a prop in Blender and then gave it a texture in DAZ3D.

Do you mean you have an object saved in Blender format, exported from Blender in .obj format, or converted from .obj into native DAZ|Studio format? How did you save the texture? Does it use actual texture image files, or only material settings?

Now I want to send it to someone but when he opens it says it dosen't find the texture or the obj.

Which program is your someone using? DAZ|Studio requires object, material setting, and texture image files in particular folders. It's very easy to give someone an object that only works if the files are in folders that only exist on your computer.

  • I still haven't figured it out. This account is also mine

I exported the model as an obj in blender and opened it in DAZ3D.
Then I made textures with png and jpg files and applied those textures in DAZ3D

Now I want to give it to a friend who is also using DAZ3D.

When I search for "export object from daz with textures" it only shows me how to export it to other programs. I just want to export it in a way so that my friends DAZ3D knows where the files are.

Have you saved it as an asset or just as a scene/scene subset? If it's just a scene file all your friend needs is that plus the textures (ideally you applied them from /Runtime/Textures/Some Folder in your content directory). If you saved it as an asset your friend will also need /Data/Author/Product (where Author and Product were the names you entered in the options dialogue when saving).

I exported the model as an obj in blender and opened it in DAZ3D.

Then I made textures with png and jpg files and applied those textures in DAZ3D

Something else to note — when you loaded the .obj into DAZ|Studio then applied the textures, how did you save the materials setting that uses those textures? If you didn't, then the .obj file (or rather, the .mtl file that goes with it) doesn't know where to find the textures. You also need to save your loaded .obj file as noted above, either as a Prop Asset (preferred) or as a Scene Subset, otherwise the file you send doesn't know where to find the textures.

Also, the reason you weren't finding useful info about "export object" is that export is not what you want to do; it's saving (which means in DAZ|Studio native file format).

Why is this so complicated? If you try to share some Daz Studio scene DUF file you also need all PNG & JPG files used by this daz project. The DUF file itself just points to a folder in some path on your harddrive to load the textures from there.

There are other export file formats like the FBX export that, as far as I know provide an automation to save all textures in the same folder like the FBX and load them from there.

In your case I think you need to save a proper Daz Studio asset to your library.

A good advice I read here somewhere was to first create a new empty content directory (library) folder first, with this you dont have to search and later you can easily select that folder and make a compressed Zip archive file out of it to share it with your frind.

To create a new content directory (library) go to Edit>Preferences or press F2 change to the Content Register and press "Content Directory Manager". Select the Set: DazStudio formats and press Add, choose or create a new content directory folder - done.

Then create a new folder called "Runtime" and within that a folder with the name "Textures" - btw. copy all needed textures in there, maybe convert all to jpg because png's can be huge files - if done so exchange all texture file references in the Surfaces pane to the new location.

Finaly go to File>Save As>Support Asset>Figure/Prop Assets. The first you want to change ther is the content directory/library to save it to your new empty one.

At least thats what I would try - hope this is more helpful than confusing - good luck with exporting/saving content.frown

  • Ohh now it works. I set a new content libary and put all the files there and saved it as a prop asset. Thank you so much
