I do not understand where the problem is

Make sure you have the object and the surface (Surface Tab)selected before applying a shader, and some won't show until you render.
Yes, it looks like you don't have the object selected in the surfaces tab. Usually you have to have it selected in both the scene tab AND the surfaces tab for most shaders to apply.
Yeah right .. the problem is that I can not pick anything on the surfaces tabs .. pop-up menu is not active ..
Go to
Windows >Panes(Tabs)>Surfaces
this will bring the surfaces tab up,
using the surface selection tool also helps in selecting the surface and the object.
