Problem: Textures don't show in viewport or render

So when looking for a nice police car I stumbled over this Camaro Highway Patrol which really looked nice. It comes with an obj file and the mtl for it. The directory paths in the mtl are wrong, though, but I was able to point them to the proper directory.

All needed textures are there.

But when I load the obj - tried different import options; Poser, Blender... - only some of those textures really show up in the viewport and the render. The texture for the tires, some decals and the headlights show, but those for the roof, the hood, the rear and the bottom don't. On the surfaces tab I can see that they are loaded to the correct surfaces and opacity is set to 100%, but they just don't show...

Any idea where that problem might lie and what might be a possible solution?

  • It may not be UV mapped - I notice it says "Unknown" for Unwrapped UVs. You can quickly check by setting the Viewport to UV view and selecting the problem surfaces, if theya re mapped you will see a 2D version of the mesh.

    thanks.. will try that tomorrow

    edit:

okay, checked the UV view and the only parts showing there are the wheels and the brakediscs.

I loaded the .obj into Hexagon 2.5 and in the Shading Domains the regions seem to be properly defined and the textured assigned as materials. At least to my absolutely Hexagon-unskilled eyes wink Nonetheless except the textures which are also visible in DAZ Studio no other textures show.

Seems that Camaro is a Lightwave model (as there are .lwo, .lxo and .lws files in the zip. But I guess trying to make it work is way beyond my abilities.

Thanks for the help though smiley

  • Lightwave supports various kinds of projection, as well as UVs, for applying textures to surfaces - I would guess that's what this model uses. You could UV map it in Hexagon, if you could work out which projection was used and use the same step in UV mapping it would probably be close to the original.

Yeah, but first I would have to learn how to use Hexagon. And right now, DAZ Studio is already quite a big thing to chew... wink

I found a different police car with working textures. Guess I just try something that I'm at least a bit more comfortable with - using the Camaro's textures and Gimp to change the other car's textures to the look I want.
