Houston, we have a problem - CUDA error

So been getting this suddenly

WARNING: dzneuraymgr.cpp(307): Iray ERROR - module:category(IRAY:RENDER):   1.2   IRAY   rend error: CUDA device 0 (GeForce GTX 1060 3GB): May not have enough memory available to execute CUDA kernel (estimated 89.332 MiB)

I know it's not a high end card, but been happening randomly either on render ( in this case ) or on loading of a scene my DAZ would just stop and give me an error. I cannot submit the error as it does not allow me. I do have it saved to a zip file.

Should i submit a ticket?

thx

I think minimum card Ram for an iray render is 4GB, that may be your problem

Then how do people with older cards and lower ram do it?

Iray works just fine in CPU mode, just a little slower.

Ok ill give it a try... I suppose using 3DLight is also an option but it will not give me same quality renders as Iray?

3DL can have the same quality, just a different look. To get 3DL to look like iray takes a lot more work though (propper light setup and surface adjustments.)

  • Yes, bug reports should be amde as Technical Support tickets.

Iray will work - scene permitting - in less than 4GB, unless a hard limit has been imposed (I used to be able to handle some settings and some nude figures in 1GB) but it's certainly easy to go over the limit and have to use CPU.

I am using both CPU/GPU and it seems to work fine... thx for advice. I suppose i should have gone for the GTX1060 6MB card instead.

One way to find out the size of the memory used is to check the Log file. Check the lines beginning with CUDA device 0. In between those lines you'll find the Memory Consumption for Geometry, Textures, Light and Materials.

Just head to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File.
