Questions about the indie game license.

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hello, everyone! Before I begin, I apologize if this topic is in the wrong place. I thought the New Users Help Forum would be the most appropriate place to post this. Being a wannabe indie game developer, I am very much interested in using DAZ3D to make my first serious video game. There are quite a few things that are unclear to me, however, that currently has me worried about doing that, which is why I am here.

The video game I wish to make is entirely 2D. No 3D assets are used whatsoever. I wish to use DAZ3D to make characters and objects, and use them to make sprites and animations. With this in mind...

Q1: Do I still need to purchase the indie developer license?
Q2: Am I still restricted in what content I can use? (For example, would I still be restricted to using content made only by DAZ and/or Rawart?)

I am asking these questions for a few reasons. One of them being that the description for DAZ3D Pro 4.6 implies that we may use the images we make with it for whatever we wish, and sprites are basically images. However, since game developer licenses are available for purchase in the store, I am not sure this applies to 2D video games. The other reason why I ask is because a post made in another thread by an administrator implies, as far as I understand, that exceptions apply for 2D games, but this post is not very clear to me. (Here is the post I'm talking about: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/34605/) Any clearification you can make will be appreciated.

Please let me know of any additional information needed. Thank you for reading, and good fortune to you in your current and future endeavors.

You don't need the game license if you're just using images or animations you render -- those fall under the normal license, which allows you to use your rendered images and animations any way you wish.

Simple answer is no you won't need a license if you are only going to use 2d images and sprites.

The Game license is for those who wish to actually use the mesh in their games, which is prohibited without the license. Even with the license they are limited to usig Daz Original products or buy a separate license for the few PAs who also allow their meshes to be used in this sort of game.
