Why Did my Furry Boots Explode?

Hi guys! I'm working on a fairy series, and I've this one lady who is my current learning to do it well piece. Because she's a honey bee, she needed furry legs so I just purchased the Barbarian Boots. I put them on, and not knowing the new way fur works around these here parts I noticed a gap in how they fit to Genesis' legs and adjusted the boots to be tighter to her legs. Then I rendered. And her legs exploded. See image.
Why did this happen and how can I stop the rein of boot terrorism? :-(

It looks as if the displacement is too high, can you give a screen shot of the surfaces tab, if you select the area that is blown up with the surface tool, then do the screen shot.
Just a thought is she scaled down?
Omigosh thank you for replying. LOL.
I admit when it comes to displacement I've looked at it, I've read the stereo instructions about it, I've never quite gotten it. I'm attaching a screenshot for it, it's at 80% which I guess is the default.
Yep, very scaled down. Scaling up the flowers, as they were only meant for background color, didn't work so I had to go the other way. It's kind of a meet in the middle situation; the flowers are up a bit and she's way down.
I lowered displacement to 20%. No change. :-(
How exactly did you adjust the boots?
I lowered the two of the scales - width - to be closer to the leg. Even with fur being fuzzy, the boot wouldn't have had that kind of gap. The fur would be squished. :-)
I'm currently rendering again with displacement at 2% to see what happens....
Its the fact that she scaled down I remember it happening to me and thinking WT, you will need to set the displacement very low to compensate.
scorpio, you are so right! I put the displacement down to 2% and got these nominally fuzzy boots - and I learned a little bit about displacement! Which makes me slightly excited. LOL. I'm currently trying 4% to see if that makes them as shaggy as I'd like.
And I also have to do something about those clouds. I've had other backdrops get blurred with the depth of field, but this time not so much. =^-^=
Thank you, both of you, for your help and for responding! Happy Day.
I believe that there has been an update to these boots, you should go to My Account > Product Library and download the latest version. If you use DIM, that is done automatically for you.
It doesn't happen with me at all, no matter how much I scale, and the displacement is set to 80%
Although adjusting the displacement strength will certainly work, it's more controllable to adjust the Min and max values (which are in cm - so you had a 6cm, about two and third inches, range originally).
Argh, no... maximum and minimum?? Well this lady's boots are set to -3 and 3 for max and min. I wasn't sure what that meant for anything so I left it alone. I tried to find something about this on the interwebs but nothing.
I changed the displacement on the fur of her boots only to 10%. Final render attached. Yeah, that displacement had to be low. But her overall size is 8%, so I think there might be a relation here I should keep in mind for the future.
