Alternative Piercing Pack

OK, I bought the Alternative Piercing Pack because I wanted to put jewlry on my female and male characters. Some of the items have gems in them. Ok, I applied various colored materials and I do not see any change in them. Before, after, iRay nor 3Dlight. These gems only render as slightly blueish white or clear. Anyone have a solution to get these to work. I've tried them on Genesis 2, 3, 8, Victoria 8, and her various character variations. What's wrong here! What am I doing wrong?
