How to use DAZ Studio 4.10 to change color of a coat

I'm trying to do something I would think is relatively simple. I want to adjust the color of a coat from black to light gray. But no matter what I do using the Surface tools, the coat never changes color.
How do I change colors of clothes (or props for that matter) within DAZ and save them as a new UV for the clothing?
I'm sure there's a way to do this simply, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

You can do this my clicking on the gear icon at top right of your post (next to the star) selecting Edit from the drop down and then changing category on the left hand side.
If you look at the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane, with the coat selected in the scene and one or more surfaces selected in the surface list, the Diffuse or Base Colour is the one that (mostly) determines the colour. You need to look at the ectual colour and at the map applied, the two will be multiplied together. If the map is black then adjusting the colour value won't help - you could try clicking on the little thumbnail for the map to open the menu, layered Image Editor, click Add Layer, and make a light solid colour, then adjust the opacity to allow the map to show through for details - a better way is to edit a copy of the map and apply that by selecting browse from the menu.
