I have downloaded some files from Renderosity. No matter how I try I can't get them to be seen on the Content Manager. Looking at other things, files seem to be applications therefore having their own unzip and install within them. The files I have don't. Is this my problem?? Please can anyone give me some guidance??

You would need to tell us what the ZIP files contain, a simple listing will do, and a link to the product would help too?

Are you on a PC or a Mac?

It is usually a case of extracting the zipped file to a temporary folder, then merge it with your DAZ Studio content folder. The items should appear in the Content Library pane, under Poser Formats if they are Poser files. They will NOT appear in Smart Content unless they are mnade for DAZ Studio, AND they have their own Metadata.

Files from other stores don't have metadata, so to find them you need to you the content browser, not the smart content.

The installers from DAZ until the arrival of the DIM (DAZ Install Manager) were installers that you ran. Applications like DIM, DAZ Studio are still distributed as Installers.

2 things, that might help you (or so I hope atleast)

1, do you have Day Dreamer for Genesis?http://www.daz3d.com/day-dreamer-for-genesis as the files you have downloaded from Rendo is as far as I can tell only textures to the original clothing, which is bought here on Daz.

    2. To get them to show up in your studio, you will need to more the two folders named People and Runtime in your screenshot, into the library where the rest of your things are for exempel, as to whre I put my things at the moment C:\Users\Carola\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library ). You will be told that the folders already exist and asked if you want to merge, press yes (or accept, don't remember what it says).

I hope this helps, and if I have said something very silly or very wrong I hope some of the others correct me :)

    /C

If the zip file contains a folder called "My Library," you should merge it with your existing "My Library" folder (usually at a location like C:/Users/(your username)/Documents/DAZ 3D/My Library). Make sure you actually merge the folders...don't place the one within the other.

Other important question...do you own this product? Day Dreamer for Genesis
It appears to be required in order to use the files you downloaded.

You are 100% spot on. This is just a Texture set. As the Read Me clearly states you NEED the product to use the Textures.

And yes you must MERGE the People and Runtime Folders into your My Library/My DAZ 3D Library for them to work.
Also know that the files will not Have MetaData that I see so can only be used from the Content Library Tab in DS.

In case you don't own it yet, the Day Dreamer outfit and many other products are available for $1.99 each if you join the Platinum Club.

If you're looking for free Genesis clothing (not just textures), you can find quite a bit on ShareCG...check out the offerings by wilmap, among others. Also see the Freepozitory section of these forums.

I'm really sorry to be thick. How would I know what I'm looking at on websites? I thought I was downloading a person. The Platium Club sounds great but before I pay out I need to know its what I'm after. I want to get a body, move it into poses, dress it and put hair on it. I'm happy to buy the Gensis but will it give me that cause by the sounds of it, it seems to just be clothes.

Genesis is free, when you Download the genesis starter essentials, which come with the DS 4.6 you have presumably ordered through the DAZ 3D store. You should find the Genesis starter essentials in your product library, or be able to download it with DIM

Genesis is a figure, a generation 5 figure, and it comes free with DAZ Studio. To get it, you have to download and install Genesis Starter Essentials.

Once you have done that, you should see the content in your Smart Content or Content Library panes.

If you are still having problems, please create a new thread in this forum, and ask your questions there.

The Dreamer for Genesis is only clothes yes. If you installed Daz Studio you have some basic genesis figures in there already (basic female, basic male and basic child.. plus one called genesis if I remmber correctly)

To get a character you will need to buy (or find a free one of course) a character texture, for the appropriate base you have (for exemple genesis. If you have Victoria 4.2 you will need a character texture made for Victoria 4 and so on) Let me see if I can find a few.... here is a search list for character textures that fit genesis (many of them also fit other figures, ex Victoria 4 and so on) http://www.daz3d.com/people?compat_figures=28

For some of them you might need to have other required items to make it work. Keep in mind, that the character textures are almost always sold with only the base figure texture, in other words.. no hair, no clothes and no accessories (sorry if I spelled that wrong)

As a new user I would suggest perhaps just playing around a little with the basic figures that came with Daz Studio, before you start to buy character textures. You might want to buy some clothes and maybe some poses as the poses that are included isn't the best ones in my personal opinion *smiles* Or you can of course also find free clothes and poses.

Just make sure to read properly, so that you get hold of actual clothes and not just the texture for a certain item like what happened to you with the Dreamer outfit textures. Sorry for the longwinded answer, and I hope it gave some help

No need to apologize. We've all been there. When I was starting out I remember having trouble figuring out exactly what certain products were supposed to be, and the requirements (what you need to have in order to use the product) can be particularly confusing. If you can link to the thing you downloaded, we can take a look and point out the clues or indicators that it's clothing textures, not a character.

When shopping in the DAZ 3D store, be sure to click on the "What's Included and Features" tab on the product page...that will tell you what the product includes. In case you don't understand the information there, just ask here on the forum.

For your goal of making a person, the Genesis figure is free with DAZ Studio 4.6. If you haven't done this yet, go to your Product Library and download and install "Genesis Starter Essentials" (or you can have the DAZ Install Manager take care of this for you). Genesis can be male or female, adult or child, human or monster, etc. A few hairstyles and outfits come with it, but you'll probably want to acquire more (freebies, purchased products, or both). You should also consider getting one or more morph sets for Genesis so that you can have much more flexibility on customizing how it looks.

I posted this in another thread in response to a question...maybe you'll find this information useful:

There are some free Genesis morphs available elsewhere, including this set that (in my opinion) is very good.

If at some point you decide to purchase some Genesis content, consider picking up the Genesis Evolution Head and Body Morphs. Note also that those morphs are contained in some of the larger bundles, so if you can afford it that may be a better value. The morphs you saw in the video probably included the Genesis Evolutions morphs, and perhaps others as well.

And here's some great information on what you can do with just the basic Genesis.

Edited to add: Welcome to the forum!
